Gabe's P.O.V
"You can't pull this shit Gabriel!", Cameron yelled. I flinched,
"Cam it-it was an accident.", I whispered, "I-I didn't mean it-"
"Look, I know dad has let you get away with shit for a long time because he's never here but I'm not letting you act like a spoiled little bitch."
"You're the one who made me come out of my room! I was perfectly fine sitting in there alone but no. You always do this. You always make me do shit that puts me in bad situations."
"You need to step out of your comfort zone."
"You need to step out of my life.", I snapped. He paused,
"You'll pay to replace the window. I'll talk to dad when he gets home about a further punishment. Understood?"
"Fine."
"What was that?", he snapped.
"Yes sir.", I gritted out through clenched teeth.
"Get out of my sight."
"Gladly."
~~~~~~~~
"Gabriel!", dad yelled from downstairs, "Get down here!" I picked myself up off the floor, where I'd landed earlier after a fit of anger, and shuffled down the steps. "You broke a window!?"
"It was an accident.", I whispered, knowing it was pointless. He'd believe Cameron. He always did.
"How? How is throwing a tantrum and hitting the window with a rock and accident?"
"That's not what happened."
"Then please, enlighten me.", he scoffed.
"I was gently kicking rocks off the pavement earlier and I kicked one too hard and it hit the little trampoline thingy and then the window. I really didn't mean to dad." I didn't care if he didn't believe me. I didn't care if I had to pay for it or was grounded or whatever. I just don't want Cameron to hit me.
"Gabe.", dad sighed, "Let me think for a minute.", he muttered. I sat on the steps, messing with my sleeve. I wanted to tell him. So, so bad. But I wouldn't.
"He was mad I made him hang out with me.", Cameron cut in.
"Yeah but I didn't break the fucking window because of it.", I snapped.
"Enough!", dad barked, "I'm fucking done with you two fighting all the time. You're brothers for God's sake." He sighed, "Gabe, you're grounded for a week-"
"Can Rosa still come here?"
"Depends on you kid."
"Okay."
"And if Cameron thinks you deserve more, that's on him. He was in charge." My heart fell into my stomach,
"Dad, please handle it. Please. Don't-Don't let him hit me please.", I begged. I saw Cameron smirk slightly,
"I wasn't going to this time. Next time you throw a tantrum I will."
"Yes sir.", I whispered, "Can-Can I go please?" Dad hesitated,
"Yeah. Dinner will be ready on an hour."
"I'm not really hungry.", I muttered, bolting upstairs. I called Braxton the second my door closed.
"Kid? What's up?", he answered quickly.
"I-I'm sorry. I know you're with your family I just-"
"Hey, they're my in-laws. I'm taking every excuse I can to leave that room. What's wrong?" I broke, sitting on the floor as I cried again. "Hey, hey Gabe calm down. Breathe. In, out. It's gonna be okay. Do I need to come home?"
"N-No I just-" I stopped, catching my breath, "I-I just hate it here.", I whispered, "I was so excited for Cam to come back but now I feel like I need to leave. Why did I think dad could add another kid to the mix? I know he can't even handle me. They don't want me here and I just need to leave-"
"Gabe, stop. What happened?"
"I-I accidentally broke a window and Cameron told dad one thing and lied and dad believed him and was gonna let him hit me and if he hits me he'll never stop. He wants me dead. I don't blame him."
"He doesn't want you dead. He's your brother."
"He thinks I'm just this spoiled brat and I-I know I am sometimes but I try really hard to not act like that-"
"And you don't. You're only spoiled to make up for not having a dad ninety percent of the time. You don't act spoiled. You're saving for college, you take your friends to dinner, you donate to charity and help the people you care about. Cameron doesn't know you anymore. You're not ten now. He doesn't have the right to assume who you are without getting to know you. But you don't have the right to assume he wants you dead or let him be the reason you want to kill yourself. He's been here a month and you're gonna let him break you this easily? That's not the kid I know."
"Everything breaks me Brax. I can't keep doing this!"
"You can. I know you can baby. You're so, so strong and no matter what, I'm on your side and I'll defend you until my last breath. You know that."
"I just wish dad was on my side too."
"I-I know. Did-Did you relapse?" I hesitated. I didn't wanna lie.
"Y-Yeah."
"Did you make sure to clean them out like I showed you?"
"Yeah."
"Good. You-You should tell your dad."
"I don't want him to hit me. With my luck, he'd tell Cameron and let him hit me. I don't wanna get in that situation."
"Gabe, he'll find out eventually and be more upset. You can't avoid being punished for this kid."
"I'd rather wait an entire week for you to come home than tell dad. The last thing Cameron needs is more ammo on me."
"What'd you mean?"
"I get the brotherly fighting and shit but he just goes so far. He kept making jokes about Rosa being overweight and about her cutting 'cause she came over the other day in short sleeves and it made me so mad but if I go off on him, I'm the spoiled brat and then dad will be mad at me too. I can't win."
"Gabe, dinner time.", dad said knocking on my door.
"I-I'm not hungry." He cracked open the door,
"You need to come eat. I'm not asking you, I'm telling you." He glanced around the room, "What... happened in here? It's not like you to let your room get destroyed."
"Nothing. I'll clean it up later." I stood up, "I-I gotta go Brax. Love you."
"I love you too kid. Please tell him."
"Bye."
"Bye kid."
