Reassurance

Damon's P.O.V.

Meg sat across from Ellie at the table,

"So, the guys say you've been acting a little different lately. Wanna tell me why?" Ellie shrugged,

"I shouldn't have gotten attached. I should have known better." Ash and I glanced at each other from the next room, where we eavesdropped.

"Why do you say that?"

"D-Damon spanked me the other week."

"He has every right to spank you when you make a mistake kid. Did he hurt you drastically? Or leave permanent scars? Did he abuse you?"

"No. But Joe spanked me once and-and it just got worse and worse."

"Did it feel the same with Damon?" She hesitated,

"No."

"Listen, Damon and Asher love you. So, so much. You truly belong here baby. I know you're scared, but you don't need to be. They're gonna take good care of you and that includes disciplining you sometimes. It's good for you. If you ever feel scared or worried they might seriously hurt you, you can always call me or Jake and we'll be here, okay?"

"Okay."

"I know things changed when he did that, but they don't need to. Not in this way. If they weren't positive they will always want you, they wouldn't have adopted you and if I wasn't positive they'd keep you and love you forever and ever, I never would have let it happen. You have so many people on your side kid. We've got you covered."

"I-I just really loved them from the second I met them. I got attached almost immediately and I shouldn't have. Getting attached always gets me hurt."

"I know it seems like that. E-Especially with Jaden. But not this time. This time it's real and it's forever. I swear."

"What about you two?", she called. Ash and I stepped in. "You promise you're stuck with me forever?"

"And ever.", we said softly. She hesitated before getting up and hugging us tightly. I smiled softly, picking her up and hugging her,

"I thought I broke you. I want our baby back. You being sad isn't you."

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be. I just want you to be who you are. You brought so much positivity and happiness into this house. I don't think you realize how much it effects us when you're sad."

"I'll be happy now. I was just scared."

"Don't be. You have nothing to be afraid of here. We're gonna take care of everything love."

"Okay D."

I sighed,

"Why?"

"She said mean things. I did the wrong thing and I'm very sorry.", Ellie said sincerely.

"I'm glad you're remorseful Elena but that doesn't excuse the fact that you assaulted another person."

"She hurt my heart, I hurt her face. It really seemed reasonable in my rage filled eyes." I withheld my laugh,

"What did she say to you?"

"Mean stuff about you and daddy."

"What specifically?" She looked up at me, her blue eyes sad,

"It was really mean D. I-I don't wanna hurt you." I crouched in front of her,

"Love, your dad and I have heard it all. Nothing like that hurts us anymore because we are better than the people who talk down on us. We have a wonderful family, we have each other, we have love. That's all that matters. I need you to tell me what she said because I don't think you're the only one who should be punished here." She looked away,
