Keisha's P.O.V.

My whole body went numb two days ago.

"Keisha, get your ass up.", Anthony said sharply.

"Fuck off."

"Girl don't make me beat your ass. Get. Up.", he snapped, "You gotta meet my mama today and she ain't having none of this shit. She'll have both our hides if you make us late for brunch." I don't want to meet his mom. I'm sure she's great but thinking about how other people get their moms still and mines gone makes me hate everything.

"No."

"Shakeisha Janette we ain't doing this. Don't make me call mama." I broke down in tears, sobbing into the soft blankets in my temporary bed. I felt him sit by my side as he rubbed my back, "Shh, I'm sorry baby. I know it hurts.", he whispered. I sat up and clung to him, hating the fact that I had grown close to this man I was previously terrified of.

"I-I want her back!", I sobbed.

"I know. I know kiddo. I can't even imagine what you're going through. I wish I could fix it. I'd do anything to make it better sweets." He held me tightly until I'd mostly calmed down, "But I really do think meeting my mama will make you feel better.", he said softly, brushing the tears from my face.

"O-Okay."

~~~~
"You must be Keisha.", came a women's voice. We'd stepped into a colorful two story home, the smell of fresh baked cinnamon rolls and pie coming from the same room as the voice. This place felt like... home...
"Can we come in the kitchen?", Anthony asked.
"Well she's gotta meet me, don't she?" He pressed his hand to my back, gently leading me into the kitchen. A curvy black woman turned around, her hair held back by a white bandana as she wiped her hands on her apron.
"You lying.", I laughed, "There ain't no way in hell that's your mama. Look how pretty she is! And she's definitely younger than you." Anthony rolled his eyes as the woman laughed,
"I love this girl. As much as it pains me, I am his mother." She walked over and placed her hands on my shoulders, looking down at me intently, "I'm sorry something's hurting you darling.", she said before hugging me, "It'll pass." I melted into the hug. She was like my grandmother who died when I was little. Just like her. She straightened up and looked to Anthony, "Get the hell out of my kitchen. Poor girl's been stuck with you, she needs some mama time." You have no idea...
"Yes ma'am.", he smiled.
"Your brothers and sister should be along shortly. Until then, start washing the windows outside."
"On it." He left as she looked to me,
"Drinks are in the fridge. You gotta start helping me make pasta."
"I've never made pasta. Unless it was from a box."
"A box!? Hell no child. We don't do that shit here. We make our own from scratch."
"Mama!", I heard a girl call.
"You'd better not step foot in this kitchen without my veggies." A girl, much resembling her, walked in with a paper bag,
"Don't worry, I got 'em."
"Aha, that's my girl.", she said going over to kiss the girl's head and take the bag. "Keisha, this is Selena."
"It's nice to meet you.", I said softly.
"You too kid. You've been living with Anthony?" I nodded. "Jeez. I'm sorry."
