Nate pov

I  watched as Aidan disappeared round the corner of the building. I couldn't help but feel dread in the pit of my stomach. Those burns could have been a freak accident. Right? Surely Robs not right? I'd hate myself if it was true. I should've seen it coming.

"Aidan!" I yelled after him, jumping out the tree and following him. "Aidan wait please!"
I caught up quickly, finding him running towards the boy's loo. He stopped for a moment to stare at me with teary eyes.
"Leave me alone Nate."
"Aid. I can help you. Just let me. If this is what I think it is, I know what you're going through. Just let me be here for you."
"...Just go away Nate..."
"Please."
"Nathaniel. Go away!" He shoved me but I grabbed ahold of his arms. He tried to turn away from me but I wasn't backing down easily. He needed me. Now more than ever. Even if he didn't trust me. He will soon enough. I won't let him be scared of me.
"Why won't you let me in Aidan?"
"Because I'm abused! Happy now? Nobody likes an abused gay kid..."
I pulled my upset friend into my chest where he immediately started sobbing uncontrollably.
"I hate it Nate. I hate every moment of every day. I got home last night and he... he..."
"Shh. I know. I know. Shh. It'll be okay." I rubbed my hand in circles along his back. It tore me apart to see him like this- so broken and defeated.
"I need to tell Rob, Aid. He'll be able to help more than me."
"No! Promise me Nate. Promise you won't tell anyone. I've hidden it for years. I can wait three more."
I sighed. I shouldn't agree but it'll help right now. "Okay, okay. I promise."
