"look kim, i think i'm gonna have to let you go,"
the brunette looks up at her boss, the tall darkhaired australian, that new zealand's biggest business company basically breathes on.
"–sir, you can't make me leave. this is the only reason why i'm still here. i can't just give it up. atleast give me another year."
her boss rubs his forehead with his hand, "i know that jennie. but even if i want to keep you here, i can't. we're going bankrupt... i'm going bankrupt. i'm gonna have to surrender the company and the building to someone else. it's been a good five years miss kim, and no doubt, you are the best president i've ever had. your service in this company will forever be remembered."
jennie sighs, knowing even if she convinces him to make her stay, she'd eventually have to leave sooner or later.
"i understand," she looks up at her boss and smiles once last time before she turns around and walks towards her desk. this is her last day in the office. the office she's worked in for years.
what is she supposed to do now? how is she going to tell her mother this? she's not gonna have to tell her, right? it's probably better if she doesn't know.
jennie looks around the office for an empty box to put her things in. she manages to find one by the far corner of the room. she picks it up and immediately sees a piece of paper on the floor that's probably been under that box for ages.
she puts aside the box and picks it up, trying to remember when she had this and how it could have ended up there, bud sadly, nothing came into her mind.
jennie goes back to her office table, slumping down on the chair as she unfolds the piece of paper.
the handwriting on it she immediately recognizes as her eyes reads the note.
—
"i'm resigning,"
"what?" jennie looks up from her desk, finally having an eye to eye conversation with the raven-haired girl standing in front of her.
"i'm going back to korea," the girl answers. "i can't stay here anymore, jennie. my mom needs me there, i have to take care of her while she's still alive."
jennie runs her fingers through her hair, taking a deep breath as she walks around the table to now be inches away from the girl.
"jisoo..." she mutters, leaning in to press their foreheads against each other and their fingers intertwined.
"come with me." jisoo whispers, "i really don't want to leave you."
jennie pulls away, "then don't," she says, regretting it as soon as the words leave her mouth. jisoo frowns.
"i'm sorry," she looks down, "i know it's selfish, but..." jennie doesn't manage to finish the sentence as her eyes fill up with tears. her body slowly getting weaker as her knees begin to crumble below her.
they stay there for more than five minutes until jisoo breaks the silence, "you know what, you can stay." she tells the girl, making her tilt her head, wiping the snot from her nose and the tears on her cheeks.
"i can't make you come with me. it'll be a hassle." she changes her mind making jennie shake her head.
"that's not what i meant, soo–"
"no, jen." jisoo cuts her off, "it's still for the both of us."
"imagine it this way," she leads jennie back to her office chair. making the younger girl sit down and for her to straddle her on her lap. jisoo cups her cheeks, circling her thumb to the rhythm of her heart. "i know it'll be hard for us, for our relationship, our friendship. but if we get through this–"
