Listening to the waves crashing onto the shore had always been Rosé's favorite past time. Ever since she was a teenager, she always found herself hanging out by the beach behind their house, watching the seagulls flying over her head and the palm trees swaying with the wind. She usually brought her journal along with her where she'd write all the things happening in her life. Whether it be what she had eaten for breakfast or simply about the girl she had been crushing on that lived a few blocks from her. This was considering Rosé's house was the only one near the beach.
And how did she know about the girl? It was during a night out by the beach's cove. She was 17 then. There was an open space by a cliff where Rosé hid at times her parents fought. It was where she goes when her mind boggles her with lies she doesn't deserve to hear.
That was when she saw her.
A black-haired girl walking down the shore, a lantern in her hand, her toes meeting the wet sand as the ocean proceeded on washing it away with a quick swift of the waves colliding with them. Her face was clear as the moonlight shone across it. Her eyes showed interest in the waves, just like Rosé's.
With a little bit of courage, the older girl stood up from her safe place and walked towards her. Without knowing her name, Rosé stopped her in her tracks, with a soft smile spread across her face as she asked, "May I?"
"May you?" the girl questioned her back, a curious look to her face. Even as her eyebrows furrowed, meeting at the middle, Rosé still found her so beautiful.
"Dance with me, stupid."
The other girl was taken aback, not because she had been called 'stupid' but because even though she had no idea who this girl was, she was willing to lend her hand and dance under the moonlight with her. There was just something about the Australian native that caught her senses.
So as Rosé let her hand out, the girl put the lantern on the sand as she then intertwined their hands together. The distinct sound of the waves crashing onto the shore became music to their ears. Like there was a melody guiding them to sway from side to side as their mouths released a series of laughs, engulfing the both of them into a hidden getaway. Like they were in their own worlds, forbidding anyone else to enter their haven.
Their feet went back and forth, their bodies colliding ever so often as they kept their eyes connected. The other girl lets out a soft giggle, quite shocked because of the fact she's dancing with someone she doesn't even know.
"What's your name?" she asks, minutes after they started dancing. Rosé laughs at this as she steps back with the girl following suit.
"I'm glad you asked," she answered, continuing on with their movements. "Rosé."
"You?"
The girl smiles back at her, extending her arm as she brings Rosé into an embrace before going back to their dance.
"Lalisa," she states with a low voice, whispering as if they were in a sea full of people, "but just Lisa for you."
Rosé nods at the response, finding peace within their hand-holding and their in synced footsteps.
The tide started to rise as midnight began to creep in. The two slowly went up the sand, still having their fingers intertwined. Lisa almost forgot the lantern as she was too focused on the girl before her.
As their hands left one another, Rosé felt a sudden emptiness. She had never felt it before, her hands were just fine if no one was holding them. But then suddenly, a girl changed that for her. Fortunately, Lisa came back in an instant, bringing their hands back into a lock, smiling at each other as if they were the only two people left in the world.
