Peter Parker was having a pretty much normal Sunday, he had stayed overnight at Stark Tower to help Tony with new suit designs. It was basically like any other day. Except there was one thing that made a shiver run down Peter's spine. The plumber. Tony had hired a group service to fix the pipes that were leaking in the bathroom.
Well, Tony could have fixed them himself, easily. But Pepper insisted that he should just leave it, seeing as he had been spending so much time working and none sleeping. So Tony had been "resting" for a few days, while still continuing to spend every spare moment with Peter.
But something about the plumbers, especially the leader, made Peter's stomach turn, his spidey senses overloaded. There was something about him, something eerie. When he first walked into the room Peter and Tony had been talking about Peter's science experiment due in for school. The man stared at them continuously, Tony didn't really notice, but Peter could feel it. He had pulled Tony aside and told him about the guy, and the bad energy he was getting from him. But Tony had just said, "It's alright kid, they'll be gone in an hour." And so Peter tried not to worry too much about this and continued to tell Tony about how much he hated PE, which he had on Monday. This type of chatter went on for a long time as the two of them kept watching movies and eating junk food.
The man had finally left around two hours after he had arrived, and Peter automatically calmed down. He had gotten up and dressed for school the next morning, sweeping the bad feeling out of his mind.
When the lesson he had dreaded the whole weekend finally arrived, Peter and his classmates were sitting down in the hall, preparing for instructions of the newest PE activity. However, the lesson never actually started. Instead, the sound of three bullets fired out from the front of the school. Everyone started to panic, people were screaming and others were crying out. Ned looked at Peter, but he couldn't risk putting on the suit now, he has to protect his identity and he doesn't even know how many shooters there are. He might not have even been able to take them all down in his suit anyways. So instead he takes out his phone, and quickly texts Tony's number. He's frantically pressing the buttons, feeling more anxious as the seconds tick by. He sends the message with a click and just prays that Tony sees it before anyone gets hurt. And as if Peter needed more reason to be afraid, the men march in the door. Six of them in total, all wearing ski masks and black clothing. But Peter can sense it already, the man in the front is the plumber from the day before.
He calls out, "Where is Peter Parker?!" As he fires a shot into the ceiling. The students around him scream louder now, holding onto each other for balance. He chokes in a breath as he tries to gather himself. But then the man makes eye contact with him, and Peter knows that he's screwed. The man gestures the other five people towards Peter, and they walk towards him. Peter backs up into the wall and realises that there is nothing he can do right now that can help. They all have their guns trained on him, and his senses are screaming at him to run. The wind is almost knocked out of the kid when the men grab him so forcefully, bringing him towards the plumber man. But he doesn't fight them, he doesn't struggle, he can't risk putting himself or anyone else in danger. Spiderman could, but Peter couldn't. The two men holding his arms keep him firmly in place while another one lifts a chair in from outside of the hall. They sit him down and handcuff his hands to the arm rests. Spiderman could easily break the chair and the restraints, but Peter pushes that thought to the back of his brain.
"Hey kid, how about we talk to that old man of yours?" The main man smirks. Peter doesn't say anything, his throat is dry and he's scared, he's so scared. His hands are shaking and his breaths are quick and sharp. The man reaches inside Peter's pockets and pulls out his phone.
"What's the password?" He leans down towards him.
"2730." Peter whispers it, but the man seems pleased that he answered without needless hassle. They would have gotten the password either way... The man stands up now and holds Peter's phone out of his reach, but then his expression changes. It goes from normal to furious in a span of five seconds. Peter's senses are now off the rails, begging him to fight or flee, anything else. The man punches him in the side of his face, his head jolts to the side and he can't even stop the tears that roll down his cheeks. Yep, that would leave a mark. Peter sniffs and tries to regain his breath, the tears ceasing a little now.
"This little shit has already texted Stark, I think he'll be here soon." The man sighs to the rest of the group.
"Come on, you really think Ironman would come here just for this kid?" Another man asks.
"Don't question me. Stark treats him like he's his son, they're super close. I heard them yesterday." He said sternly, Peter tried to ignore the whispers of the other hostages in the hall, chattering quietly about him and Tony. They knew about the Stark Internship, but most of them just thought Peter had made it up, because that's what Flash had said.
"Doesn't matter, we'll get the money anyways." The man presses the call button and Peter listens to hear Tony's voice on the other end.
"Kid? I got your text? You alright?"
"Hello, Mr Stark. I was wondering if we could discuss an amount for the price of me returning your intern in one piece." The man replied and Peter can almost hear Tony's breath hitch at the voice on the phone.
"Where is he? Where's my kid?" Tony snarls.
"Don't worry, don't worry. He's in good hands." As the man said this he grabbed Peter's hair, making a scared noise leave his throat. "The amount, Mr. Stark. How much are you willing to pay for this stupid little kid?" The man glares at Peter, who avoids his eyes because of what is mostly embarrassment. He lets go of his hair now.
"Name it." Is the only thing Tony says, and Peter almost cries on the spot because he knows that Tony would do it for him if he needed to.
"Twelve million. And maybe I don't harm him anymore than I have."
"Let me talk to him and it's a deal." Tony replies coldly.
"Well, it was nice doing business with you, we'll be keeping Mr. Parker here until you arrive with the money." The man grins at the others before placing the phone on speaker beside Peter's face.
"He...hey Mr. Stark." Peter manages to choke out, head still ringing from the force of the blow.
"Hey kiddo, I'm gonna be there to get you in a few minutes okay? Are you hurt?" Tony says, his voice full of nothing but sympathy and kindness towards the kid.
"Not really. I... I really want you to get here Mr. Stark, please hurry." His voice breaks at the last few words. "I'm so sorry, Mr. Stark. I'm scared..."
"You don't need to be sorry, kiddo, it's okay. I'm on route. Aunt Nat was so worried about you. I'm so close, don't worry. I promise kid I won't ever let anyth..." Before Tony can finish his sentence the phone is removed from beside Peter's face and the man speaks to Tony again. Peter stops feeling safe again now.
"I have to be honest Stark, I expected better from you, having such an easy target. Who would've thought that a fifteen year old would be the one thing you'd do anything for?" He says.
Tony's voice can be heard throughout the hall over the speaker on the phone.
"Just leave him alone, don't hurt the kid. I've got the money and I'm on my way. Don't touch my kid." There's anger in his voice but also pain, and Peter can tell that he's trying to keep himself together.
"See you soon, Stark." The man ends the call.
"So..." The man tuts as he walks around the back of Peter's chair. "Aunt Nat? If I heard correctly?" Peter's heart thumps loudly in his chest as he tries to thing of anything to say.
"I... I don't know..." Peter struggles to spit out the words.
"Hmm I think that's a lie," his hands grip Peter's shoulders tightly, "Come on, you can do better than that. Natasha Romanoff, The Black Widow, is worried about you?" There's more chatter among the students, most of them gaping in shock.
"I... I..." Peter can't think, he just can't. The man releases his grip and brings the gun from his pocket out into the open.
"Maybe I should give you a nice little war wound, just to let Stark know that he's taking his time." He swings the gun around on his finger and points at Peter's foot. "Maybe your Aunt Nat will cry." He smirks. Then he holds the gun directly at Peter's temple. Peter tries to lean as far away from it as he can, but he can't move too much more before the chair breaks.
The noise of the hall now is loud and people are crying again, fearing for their own lives. Another two shots go through the roof, before a different man yells at everyone to shut up. The room is now eerily silent, Peter preferred the screaming.
"Yep, I think we've earned a free hit for Stark being so rudely late." Peter can't even process the words before another blow whacks the other side of his head, this time the man had used his gun to hit him. Peter can't lift his head now, his vision is blurry and the tears have started to fall again. He imagines that this is what a concussion feels like as he's drifting in and out of consciousness. Not even ten seconds later, Ironman had burst through the door. He had taken out four of the men within a minute. The man, however, took Peter's hair in his hand and yanked it back until Tony could see his face. He held the gun to his head and Peter could see a very blurry image of Tony. Peter could tell he was mad, more mad than Peter had ever seen him, his hands were scrunched up into fists and he had his laser beams aimed at the man.
"Let my kid go, now." Tony spits the words at him.
"The money. Or I kill the kid. You choose." The man says with false confidence, as he pulls harder at his hair. Peter can't help the whimper that comes from his mouth, Tony visibly flinches at the noise and tries to compose himself. Peter can hear a grunt before the man falls down beside his chair, along with the other gun man who was beside him.
"No one touches my kid and gets away with it." A familiar voice says from behind Peter. Natasha walks in front of him and starts to pick the locks on the handcuffs, as Tony restrains the criminals. After she finishes getting Peter loose from the cuffs she steps back to let Tony through, he's not wearing his suit anymore.
Peter's still pretty shaky, still leaning in and out of consciousness.
"Kid? Kid? Come back to me kid, come on." Tony says, his hands on Peter's face lovingly.
Peter opens his eyes wearily, "M' Stark..." He slurs his words.
"Yeah kiddo, hey. Hey, it's me. We're gonna get you to Dr Banner now, okay?"
"No... 'M fine..." Peter lies.
"No, you're not fine. Jesus kid." Tony places his fingers gently along the bruised skin from where Peter had been hit.
"S'rry... I'm sorry... I shouldn't have... made you... made you come here..." His head drops warily to the side.
"No no no. Don't do that. It's alright. You have done nothing wrong. I'm the one who should be sorry. Come here." Tony says as he practically lifts the kid into his arms and pulls him into a hug. Peter wraps his arms around his neck. Natasha does the same as soon as Tony lets him go. She examines his face and then pulls him back in again.
"Ever do that to me again kid and I swear to God." She whispers to him, but Peter knows she's just scared. Nat and Tony hold his sides for support to help him walk out to the car waiting outside.
"Ned. Come on kid. We haven't got all day." Tony calls up the hall, and Ned can't stop the smile on his face as the rest of the students gawk in amazement. Ned hurriedly rushes along to Tony and they all head out to the limo. Well, at least Peter's classmates know that he really does know Tony Stark...
