Hide & Seek

Sometimes I wonder where time
has gone.

I wonder if it's run off
into the corners of my mind,
the dark ones where I hope I've
hidden everything it could ever possibly
find.

I seek it out,
walking in small steps,
listening for the quiet humming,
the one where I'll know it's found
what it's looking for.
I wonder if it'll find the moment,
the one where I didn't tell you,
the one where I stayed quiet
when everything inside me was screaming
to be let out.

I can just imagine it,
the silence of the night but
the air surrounding us thick with emotion.
I wonder if time has crouched down
next to that moment,
the one I've worked the hardest to bury,
watching as it repeats itself over
and over
and over
and over
again
watching in sadness as everything
slowly crumbles knowing it
was all my fault.

Now I see that it's found you.
why you?
I never buried you,
forgetting you felt wiser.
But time has searched for you,
and you've been caught.
A game of hide and seek,
a hider,
a seeker
and a winner.

I wonder who the winner is.
