Chapter Twenty-Six:
Zane and I spent as much time as we could together. I actually liked him and I wished we could keep in touch enough to stay together, but we both knew that long distance relationships never work out well for either party. I would just have to relish the time we had on the island and hope that fate brought us back together.
On Christmas, we opened our presents and I was excited when my parents presented me with my college fund. I had thought I wasn't going to get into college unless it was on a scholarship, but now I had hope. They also got me recording equipment, which they said they left at home, for me to record my singing.
I got Ashton a new video game and I got Alex a toy car as a joke. I told him that I would have to get home and try to find a better present for him. I hadn't been too mad, but I had been enough to jokingly get him a toy car. He hadn't gotten me anything either, he admitted. I shrugged it off. It wasn't a big deal because we were just on the road to being friends again. Ashton on the other hand got me a basic camcorder to record myself singing. Man, they're really pushing this singing thing. I got my parents a day at the spa together and they loved it. They said they would definitely use it.

It was the night before we were to leave back home and all of the families were eating together because apparently they had become acquainted and befriended each other like their children had. We enjoyed our last night together because we had an early flight in the morning.
The girls and I exchanged numbers and I gave Zane mine, just in case he wanted to keep in touch with me, but I didn't get my hopes up. I knew we would have separate lives, but the girls made me promise to keep in touch. Zane and I got to 'know each other' one last time, before we left and I sat on the plane home remembering my lovely vacation and my exciting fling.

Once the plane landed back in Texas and all the passengers exited the plane, I breathed a sigh of relief and then I remembered all the drama I had behind two weeks before. I pulled out my cell and reluctantly turned it back on, having turned it off for most of the vacation. I saw I had several new text messages. I looked at them one by one.

Dec 30 at 10:20 a.m. From Reese: We all miss you.
I smiled at the texts. I looked at the time it was almost 10:30 a.m. and I still had to get my luggage. I looked around for my black bag and I saw it a ways away down the carousel. I stood there and waited patiently for it to make its way down to me.
I was listening to my iPod and singing to myself. I didn't really pay much attention to anyone around me and so when I reached for my luggage at the same time a second hand did, I was a little more than shocked.
We pulled the bag off the carousel together and I looked up into a pair of bright green eyes that made mine look dull. I looked down at the hand that was overlapping mine and followed the toned arm up to an equally toned body. I looked back at the face to find the handsome guy smiling down at me. I paused my music.
