Chapter Forty:
I thought it would end there, but I should've known that Sky Landon definitely isn't one to admit defeat so easily. No, he sure isn't.
In my next class, he had a singing clown sent. How he got one to come to school so quickly, I have no idea. What I do know is that it took all my self-control to refrain from knocking the poor guy out. Luckily, my teacher sent him away, but not before he left me a note.
'Try and tear this gift up, buttercup. -Sky'
I ripped up the note, smiling.
Girls kept asking me if I was dating him. I ignored them because I wasn't sure if I could stop myself from saying anything mean to them.
My next class, I received chocolates and I happily ate them. I would be crazy to throw them away. There was no note with the chocolates and I was left to wonder what was up that guy's sleeve. I didn't have long to wonder because at lunch the sly devil showed his face. He showed up baring gifts, aka lunch. Everyone at my table dug in as per Sky's suggestion.
"For you, my lady, I had something especially made." I looked at the plate he set down in front of me and I rolled my eyes as I opened it. I looked down at the chicken flautas. I hadn't had any in years. My mouth began to water, but I tried to ignore it.
"How.... did you know?" I asked him in disbelief.
"A little birdy told me," he said and sat down in the empty seat next to me. I ate the delicious flautas, wondering who could have told him what my favorite dish was.
"Oh my gosh, Sky Landon, can we get an autograph? We're, like, big fans," some freshmen came up and asked. I laughed and continued eating.
"You know, some guy named Mr. Gold asked me if I wanted to file charges against you. I asked him why I'd want to do that and he said that his daughter told him that you punched me in the face for talking to you." He laughed. "Man, your school has a very flawed grapevine." I nodded.
"It's not like she hasn't punched anyone in the face before," Caleb said with a laugh. Sky looked intrigued and I had to pull his attention back to me.
"It was Valerie Gold. She was upset because she's now at the bottom of the food chain because of me," I said simply.
"How's that?" Sky asked.
"I'm a very powerful woman, that's how. She shouldn't have crossed me and my boys," I said, vaguely.
"Oh wow, you're so mighty." He laughed.
"Don't make fun. I'm apparently very scary," I said, not looking at him.
"And intimidating. Why do you think she doesn't have a boyfriend?" Devlin asked rhetorically. "Everyone's too scared to asked her out."
Mia nodded, along with several of my friends. Caleb laughed. That was something I didn't know. I knew of a few people who would date me. I recalled Conner Frost and his friend, Marco, from Valentine's Day. I hadn't really told anyone about them. If I had, the girls would have pushed me to call one of them.
"Did she tell you how she and I first met?" Caleb asked, pulling me from my thoughts. I replayed what he had said and I laughed.
"I really didn't talk to him about you guys. I honestly don't want to embarrass you, Caleb," I said, trying to stop him from telling the story, but it didn't.
With the help of Mia and myself, Caleb told Sky about the time that he shoved Mia and I punched him for it. Then he was informed about the guys' 'retaliation plan' which worked its way through all our stories together. Sky's eyes grew wide when they told him about my fight with Alicia. When Jaxon went on to tell him several bad stories about us, I had to stop him.
