Chapter Forty-Nine:
I followed the line of the muscular arm up to the broad chest and right up to those teal eyes.
"I found him for you, sister," Mason told me as he pushed Skylar towards me. He grabbed me around the waist to keep me from falling back and I put my hands on his chest.
"Thank you, brother," I told Mason and he ran off to the dance floor.
"What happened to your date," came his sexy, husky voice. I could feel his heart beating rapidly under my hand. I looked up into those gorgeous eyes and couldn't stop the blush that crept up to my cheeks. We were really close and I couldn't say that I minded it all that much. I wasn't sure why I hadn't wanted him near me before. What had he asked me? Oh right, my date.
"He had other priorities, so I guess that leaves me here all alone," I said, with only slight sadness.
"Good," he said and before I could question it, his lips were on mine yet again.
This time I couldn't draw up the anger from before and I just enjoyed the feel of his lips on mine. I slid my hands up his shoulders and into his hair. I wasn't sure how long I had been denyng it, but I wanted Skylar. I'd wanted him all along, but I was just too stubborn to give into his cocky charms. Now that the choices had been cut in half, all the pressure I'd felt urging me to choose had left me. Two of the guys had chosen for me and I knew that it was never the right timing for me and Jaxon; once we'd come to admit our feelings towards each other, that is. But I couldn't think about any of that while in Skylar's arms.
I guess I could give him a chance to be a good boyfriend. He was one hell of a kisser and I wasn't sure I wanted to part with those delicious lips. But we had to break apart for a breath, you can only draw in so much air while liplocked. Maybe this was the beginning of something amazing.

Jaxon's POV:
I had driven Mia and Caleb to her house and her maids had taken care of her and her boyfriend. I was angry at Henry and I knew that this night would end things between us. I left the car keys with the butler and made my way out to Henry, sitting in my car. I walked around to the driver's seat and jumped in.
"I think it's best if we end things, Henry," I told him.
"I know, I'm just not good at this. I tried, I really did, but I knew that you had feeling for her." I cast a startled glance at him as I drove to his house.
"What are you talking about?" I asked. I hadn't realized my feelings until recently, just before Henry and I broke up the first time.
"I saw how you'd look at her. What Devlin said she saw with Reese, was different than what I saw in your eyes. He looked at her like I look at my little sister, in a caring way, an 'I can't believe she is all grown up' way. You would look at her like a new car you wanted. A prize to be gained and treasured. I knew you would never be able to look at me that way because she stole your heart away without even knowing it," he told me.
"I'm sorry." I told him. It was true, now that I thought about it. I would always chide myself for staring at her and hoped no one had noticed. But Henry had noticed.
"It's not something you should apologize for. You love her and you deserve a wonderful girl like her. She's a diamond in the rough. She has been through a lot and she could never find a more deserving man, but I just hope you get to her in time because you really do have some competition," he was rambling. I pulled up to his house and he got out. "Good luck, Jaxon. I hope we're still friends." I nodded and he closed the door and stumbled into his house. I tried to rush back to the hotel because I needed Raven to know how much I cared about her. I knew Zane couldn't possibly care about her as much as I did and that Skylar douche would mistreat her. I had to protect her because I love her.
