Best Thing That Happened

Mariana's POV:

We all waited for Mapi and Leila to come back. Everyone kept talking until it happened.

"Mariona Caldentey." Leila walked over. She grabbed her hand and stood her up. "I've thought about this for a long time. Thinking about the perfect way to say it all. But all the thinking I've done and I still don't know how to sum up what you mean to me in words. All these years you'd think I'd know. But every day you continue to amaze and inspire me."

"Wait hold on." Mariona stopped her. "Are you doing what I think you're doing?"

"What do you think I'm doing?"

"I think you're going to propose."

"And if I was?"

"I'd punch you!"

"Mapi did Mariana do that when you proposed?"

"No." Mapi shook her head. 

"Why are you going to punch me?" Leila asked.

Mariona leaned over and took the ring box out. "Because I was going to propose first you jerk." 

"OH MY GOD!" Jenni jumped up. 

Leila couldn't stop smiling. "Are you serious?"

"Yeah, you idiot." 

"Then you should punch me because," she took the box out. "I was trying to propose to you."

"THIS IS THE BEST THING THAT COULD'VE HAPPENED!" Mapi cheered. 

"Mariona will you marry me?" Leila smiled.

"Yes, will you marry me?"

"Eh, I'll think about it." Leila smirked. Mariona pushed her. "I'm kidding! Of course, I'll marry you!"

We all clapped and watched the scene unfold. "Did you know about this?" Mapi asked me at the same time I asked her. "Oh, you son of a bitch." We said at the same time again.

"Is that what marriage is like?" Leila got excited.

"I'm actually gonna marry this idiot." Mariona said.

"Yes, you are!" Leila jumped up at down.

"Hey, Mari!" Virginia smiled. "Reminds you of when you agreed to marry that idiot doesn't it." She pointed to Mapi.

"Do you take a day off?" Mapi asked.

"Never." Vir winked at her.

We continued our dinner, which was now a celebration for Mariona and Leila. "Wait so during your wedding, is that where you disappeared to?" Nahikari asked.

"Yep." I nodded. "Mariona came up to me, asking about getting engaged and said she wanted to marry Leila."

"Leila did the same thing." Mapi said. 

"Then we went to Alexia, which means we also went to Jenni." Mariona said.

"Alexia said we had to get the ring at that moment or else she wouldn't help cause she's a now or never type of person." 

"It's true." Alexia nodded. 

"Alexia almost killed us while driving." Mariona said.

"Also true." Alexia continued to nod.

"But we got the ring."

"I knew they were up to something." Lola shook her head.

"No, you didn't." Carmen looked at her.

"No, I didn't." 

We finished dinner and then everyone realized what that meant. "What time do you leave tomorrow?" Jenni asked.

"In the morning." I sighed. 

"I don't want you to go." Mapi said.

"I know but I have to." I wrapped my arms around her. "It's September. I'll be back before you know it."

"Not soon enough." She pouted.

Mapi's POV:

We all spent the night at my place, continuing you celebrate Leila and Mariona. Giving Mariana a proper send-off. 

"How's Gabriel?" Alexia asked.

"He's good." Mariana smiled. "Misses Mapi, but he loves the new family members he's meeting." She laughed. "I've met cousins I didn't even know existed. My brother and I always talked about going to Ponta Delgada more. Never got around to it. I went with Mapi and by myself, but never with him. Having his son there is as close to it as I can get." She shrugged.

"I still can't wrap my head around him being gone." Leila whispered.  

"Gonna be 4 years." Mariana mumbled. "Still feels like yesterday." I rested my head on her shoulder. "But enough sadness, Leila and Mariona are getting married!"

"I know!" Virginia said. "I always thought you two would be the very first ones to get married." She pointed at Jenni and Alexia. Jenni choked on her water.

"You ok?" Alexia patted her back.

"I'm fine." Jenni got out. 

"Alexia," Patri said. "Your wife can't drink water."

"Wife? She's not my wife. Why would you say that? Do you want to fight, Patri?"

"Wow!" Patri put her hands up.

"Ok, you guys are being weird.

"You're being weird, Portugal."

"Jenni!" I looked at her.

"What's going on?" Carmen asked.

"What's going on is I'm going to fight Jenni." Mariana slowly got up.

"No, you're not." I pulled her back down. 

"Good call." She said as Alexia moved in front of Jenni.

"No but seriously." Carmen said. "What's going on?"

Jenni and Alexia exchanged a few looks. "Excuse us." Alexia dragged her away.

"That's weird." Mapi said.

"You know what else is weird?" Leila said. We all looked at her. "I'm engaged."
