My Daddy Said

December 2025

Mapi's POV:

"Hey, it's Mariana. Can't get the phone right now but I'll try to call you back!" 

I hung up and walked to find everyone else. "Has anyone talked to Mariana?"

"No why?" Jenni looked at me.

"I've been trying to call her for like 2 hours and she hasn't responded."

"Let me try." Alexia grabbed her phone and waited.

"Where is she?" Leila asked.

"She went to Portugal a couple days ago. Her grandmother fell and she wanted to check up on her. She's supposed to be back tomorrow."

"No answer." Alexia said. "Went right to voicemail."

"Don't panic." Sandra stood up. "Ok? We're gonna talk to her. We'll figure this out. Maybe something's wrong with her phone. Did you call her mom?"

"No, I didn't think of that." I said and grabbed my phone. I called her mom and waited.

"Mapi?" Her mom answered.

"Thank god." I sighed. "I've been trying to reach Mariana for a couple of hours and-"

"Mapi something happened." 

"What happened."

Mariana's POV:

1 day earlier

"Do you need anything?" 

"My medicine is ready."

"I'll go pick it up." I leaned forward and kissed her cheek. "I'll be right back. Don't move. If you need me, call. Ok?"

"Ok." 

I got in the car and drove to pick up her pain medication. As I walked back to my car someone stopped me. 

"Can I help you?"

He stood there in silence. 

"If you need help I will help you. If not I'll just be on my way." I got in my car. 

He continued to stand there and look at me. 

I drove off and headed back to my grandma's. I noticed a car following me. 

Mapi's POV:

"They followed her, crashed into her, shot her and left." Her mom said.

I dropped my phone and fell to my knees.

"Mapi." Jenni ran over. She picked up the phone. "Hello? No, it's Jenni. I don't know she's not talking. What happened? Is she. Ok. We'll be there. See you soon." She hung up and picked me up. "We gotta go." 

"What happened?" Alexia stood up.

"Mariana was in an accident. Looked planned. She's alive. In and out of surgery. They rushed her back in about half an hour ago. They don't know much. Mapi get it together. Go pack some stuff and get ready to leave. Leila go help her. Everyone else do the same."

Leila helped me get stuff together and then came with me, Jenni, Alexia, and Mariona to Portugal.

"Mapi you're gonna have to talk at some point." Mariona whispered. 

"What do you expect me to say? Someone tried to kill my fiancée." She looked down. "Sorry I just. I don't know what you want me to say."

After a few hours, we got to Portugal and went to the hospital. I saw her parents and went straight to them. "Where's Gabriel?" I asked.

"He was with us." Her mom answered. I saw him sitting and walked over. 

"What's going on." I sat next to him. He stood up on the chair and hugged me. "I'm here now."

"I want Mari." He whispered.

"I know. I want her too but we gotta wait alright?" He nodded. 

"Hey." Leila walked over. She kneeled in front of him.

"Leila." He smiled.

"Are you hungry?" He nodded. "Me too. Let's go see what we can find." She put her hand out. He looked up at me.

"Don't keep Leila waiting." 

He laughed and ran off with Leila. 

"Any news?" I looked at her father.

"She was rushed into surgery as soon as they got her here. The crash wasn't that bad. She has a cut on her forehead and they said a minor concussion. After that crash, they said they backed up and hit her again. She has a few broken ribs. They ripped her out of the car, shot her 3 times and left." 

I shook my head. "Did they get them?"

"There's a big search going on. Last I heard they grabbed one of them. Others are still out there somewhere."

We sat and waited. 

The doctor came out and talked to her parents. "She's stable for now. We'll continue to monitor now. We're putting her in a room, someone will bring you to her soon."

"Thank you." 

Her dad told me and I nodded. 

Leila came back with Gabriel. "Mapi!" He ran to me. 

"Yes?" I picked him up and put him on my lap.

"Leila found food." He whispered.

"And?" I whispered back.

"I ate it." He smiled. "Where's Mari?"

"We'll be able to see her soon. You have to be gentle though ok?"

"Ok." He nodded. "My daddy said she'll be ok."

I looked up at Leila.

"Your daddy?"

"Yep. We have the same name."

"When did you talk to him?"

"Last night. I was sleeping and he was there." He smiled. "He looks like me!"

"He does." I laughed. "What did he say to you?" I looked up at Mariana's parents.

"He says that he loves all of us and that Mari is the best person ever."

"You are the light of our lives." André kissed his grandson's head. "Where there was darkness, we got you."

A nurse came in. "You can go see her now. A few at a time."

"Mapi. Go see her first. Please." Her mother said.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. You two are getting married. Go see your wife." She smiled.

Leila took Gabriel and put him on her lap. "I got this adorable human. Go see the other one." 

I laughed. "Alright."

The nurse led me to the room and I saw her.

She was laying there. 

"She might wake up in a few minutes or a few hours. It's all up to her." 

"Thank you." I whispered and sat next to her. "Please wake up now."

I really didn't feel like writing. It seems like whenever things get 5% better they then get 95% worse. Life is just the worst right now and I hate it but I'm trapped and it sucks.
