Ok and go!
January 2032
Mapi's POV:
"How's Mariana?" Alexia asked.
"No good. This pregnancy is really taking a lot out of her." I sighed. "Doctor told her to stay in bed until it's time."
"Who's watching her while your here?" Patri asked.
"Leila's with her." I smiled. I looked at Mariona. "She really changed a lot."
"She's still the Leila we all know and love. Just," She laughed. "older."
"You wanna talk about old?" Alexia smirked. "There's my wife!"
"Don't push me. I'm your coach now, I'll make you run laps." Alexia crossed her arms. "I'm just kidding my love." Jenni kissed the side of her head. "Aitana that's good!" She walked over to Aitana and the younger kids."
"Coach or not, you still own her ass." I said.
Mariana's POV:
"What do you need?" Leila asked.
"For this kid to come out already." I closed my eyes. "Who's idea was this!"
"Yours?"
"Fuck you."
"Wow." Leila nodded. "Mari," She sat down and grabbed my hand. "Just breath. Ok? Getting all worked up like this isn't good for you. Or the baby. Just calm down ok?"
I nodded.
"How many weeks are left?" She asked while rubbing my hand.
"Maybe 4. All depends on her." I sighed.
"Do you have a name picked out?"
"We do."
"What is it?"
"You'll find out when she does." I looked at Leila. "You really don't have to stay with me."
"I don't want you being alone, none of us do. And we haven't had time together in a while. This is nice."
"How's Dario doing?"
"He's 11 and sassy." She said. "Even though he's not OUR son by blood, he's so much like Mariona."
"Good thing?"
"Great thing. She's such an amazing mom, Mari. I'd be lost without her, I really would."
"I'm sure she feels the same." I felt a pain and grabbed my stomach. "Son of a bitch."
"What?"
"Call Mapi. I need to go to the hospital."
Mapi's POV:
"When they attack from the left, we need to be ready." Jenni said. One of the assistants ran in. "What? Ok. Mapi, you're excused."
"What?" I looked at her.
"Just go, Mapi." She said. "Hurry." I ran out of the room.
"Can someone tell me what happened?"
"Get to the hospital. Leila called and said it's urgent."
"Oh shit." I ran to my car and drove as fast as I could. "Leila!" I ran into the hospital.
"Miss please quiet your voice."
"Please. My giraffe of a best friend brought my pregnant wife in. Where is she? Mariana Mendes?"
"5th floor."
"Thank you." I ran up the stairs to the 5th floor. "Leila?" I looked around.
"Mapi." She waved me over.
"What happened?"
"She felt pain in her stomach and said she needed to go to the hospital. I brought her here, right away and called you. They doctor is with her now, they won't tell me anything, I'm not family."
I nodded. "Thank you."
"Of course. Wait did you call me a giraffe?"
I opened the door and went inside. "Mari?"
"Mapi." Mariana reached for my hand. "You're here."
"You need me, I'll run across the country if I have to." I looked at the doctor. "What's going on?"
"The baby is in distress. We can do an emergency c-section, but Mariana said no. We went with this course to administer oxygen and fluids."
"Mari," I looked down. "Why don't you want a c-section?"
"I almost died last time. I'm not." She shook her head. "I can't do that again."
"What happens if this doesn't work?" I looked at the doctor. "Will the baby be ok?"
"If the oxygen and fluids have no positive effect, without the emergency c-section you could lose the baby. I would strongly advise you consider the c-section. Mother and baby are stable. We'll continue to monitor you both." I nodded. The doctor walked to the door and I looked. She waved me over. "Please get her to change her mind. This pregnancy has already taken a lot out of her. I fear we would lose her too."
I froze and closed my eyes. "If things start to change, you have my permission to do the surgery."
"Without Mariana's consent, I can't."
"You need to save my wife. No matter the cost."
"And the baby?"
"I'm not losing either of them. Please."
"Talk to your wife." She left.
"Mapi?" I turned to Mariana. "What's wrong?"
"My love." I walked to her side. "I think you should consider the c-section."
"I can't." She whispered.
"Mariana. We could lose our baby."
"We won't." She said. "This will work."
"And if it doesn't?"
"It will." She said. "It has to."
"I'm going to go update Leila. She's pretty panicked out there." Mariana nodded and I went outside. I told Leila everything. "She doesn't want the surgery. Leila," I sighed. "I tried to talk to her. She won't do it. She's convinced this will work."
"Because she has to convince herself that. Mapi, she want her to think that it won't?"
"I want her to fight. I can't lose her!"
"Lose who?" I saw Alexia. "We came as soon as we could. Jenni ended practice early when she heard it was Mariana. What's going on?"
I shook my head.
"The baby is in distress. They have Mariana on oxygen and fluids right now, but if this doesn't work they'll need to do an emergency c-section."
"So what's the problem then?" Jenni asked.
"She doesn't want that." I said.
"What happens then?" Patri stepped forward.
"They lose the baby." Leila said. I felt tears roll down my cheeks. "And Mariana."
