Not Ready

December 2027

Mapi's POV:

"Everything is looking perfect." The doctor smiled. "Baby Mendes is healthy and growing. How is mama Mendes though?" 

"How much time do you have?" Mariana smiled. The doctor laughed. "Just the usual. My back, exhausted, but still trying to move around a little bit. We're definitely having a little footballer." 

I laughed. "If anything changes please give me a call. I will see you after Christmas, ok?"

"Alright." I helped her sit up.

"Merry Christmas you two."

"Thanks." I said. "Healthy little baby Mendes." I smiled. 

"Little baby Mendes Leon." She said. "This is your baby too."

"That's our baby in there." I pointed.

"31 weeks down." She sighed. "Hit the eject button at any time, kid. Mom wants to sleep in normal positions." 

I laughed and we drove home. As the league got closer to the holiday break, the pregnancy began to take its toll on her.

Mariana's POV:

"How long is it now?" Vir asked. 

"33 weeks." I closed my eyes. "Anyone else hot?" I unzipped my jacket.

"It's freezing in here?" Mapi said.

"Excuse me, miss weather woman." She closed her eyes. "Some of us are crazy a whole ass child."

"Mapi can you go get us some water. I'm a little thirsty. You thirsty Mari?" I nodded. "Mapi?"

"On it." Mapi left the room.

"I love her but she's pissing me off." I turned to Virginia. "And she's not even doing anything. She's just pissing me off and I feel terrible for snapping at her."

"It's ok." Vir smiled. "She knows you love her."

"How's Nahikari? I feel like I haven't seen her in forever."

"She's good. Actually that's something I wanted to talk to you about. I've been with her for about 4 years now. Best 4 years ever. She's still at Real Sociedad and I'm with Atleti."

"Get to the point, Vir." I smirked.

"I want to be with her. All the time. Not just when we have time off. I know her contract is ending, mine is too. If she extends with Real Sociedad, I'll join them. If she doesn't want to extend, I'm going to ask her to join Madrid. And wherever we play, I'm going to ask her to move in with me." She smiled.

"No ring?"

"I don't know if I'm the marriage type." She shrugged. 

"I thought the same way." Mapi walked back in. She kissed the top of my head. "Then I met the most beautiful woman ever and my whole world flipped." She put the water in front of us.

"You know I love you right?" I looked at Mapi.

"Of course. And I know you're in pain, and this pregnancy is taking a lot out of you. We're a team in this. You let all your emotions out." She smiled. "I think you and Nahikari taking this step is huge. You two are good together." 

"Thanks, Mapi." She stood up. "I'm going to call her now. Have fun you two." She hugged me and then left.

As she left, Leila walked in. "This kid ages me more and more every day." She said as Gabriel ran in. 

"You're just old now." He said as he sat next to me. 

"I thought we were friends. I really did."

"Alexia's better!"

"She's only a year younger than me!"

"You act like you're 100!"

Mapi covered her face. "Babe stop laughing." I said covering my mouth.

"You're laughing too." She mumbled into her hands.

2 weeks later

Mapi's POV:

"Done." I smiled. "This room is now 100% ready for our little baby."

"We crushed it." Jenni smiled. 

"So the room is ready." Alexia smirked. "Are you?"

"Totally." I crossed my arms. "I'm ready for this kid. Let's go." 

"Mapi!" Virginia yelled. "I think Mariana is in labor!"

"IT'S TOO EARLY I'M NOT READY!" I ran to the living room. "What happened?"

"Her water broke." Lola smiled. "It's happening."

"STOP SMILING!" I yelled. "EVERYONE PANIC!"

"I like how I'm in labor and she's more freaked out than I am." She grabbed her stomach. "Please take me to the hospital."

"Mapi isn't driving." Virginia said. "Mapi get everything you need for the hospital."

"The bag is in the kitchen." Mariana said.

"Lola help me get Mariana to the car. Alexia call Mariana's parents, Jenni call Mapi's. Carmen, can you text Nahikari for me? Tell her to pick up Gabriel and then meet us at the hospital?"

"Already on it." 

"What are you all standing around for! Let's go!" Virginia yelled. Her and Lola took Mariana and I grabbed the bag.

"Totally ready for this huh Mapi?" Alexia smirked.

"Shut up, Ale. Wait till you two do this." I walked out.

We got to the hospital and Lola ran out of the car. "I'll park get her inside." Vir said. "Carmen, Alexia, and Jenni are right behind us. Go." 

I got Mariana out and walked into the hospital. "She's right here." Lola said. They got to Mariana and brought her up to a room. "You ok?" Lola asked me.

"I will be." 

They got Mariana in a room and started monitoring her. "It's going to be a long night." The doctor said. "I'll check you in a little bit, ok?" Mariana nodded and the doctor left. 

I sat next to her and held her hand. "It's early." She mumbled.

"Only a few weeks." I rubbed her hand. "It's gonna be fine. We'll be fine, this little baby will be fine." She nodded and closed her eyes. I ran my hand through her hair. 

Jenni and Alexia came into the room. "Mapi your parents will be here soon. Mariana your mom said your dad is trying to get off work, but she'll be here in the morning."

"Thanks, Jenni." I smiled. Mariana squeezed my hand. "I'm right here." I whispered. "We got this."

Baby Mariana incoming!!!!!! Get excited!!! 

And nothing will happen to this baby! I would never do that! So you have nothing to worry about! Baby Mariana will be FINE.
