January 2032

Mapi's POV:

"They lose the baby." Leila said. I felt tears roll down my cheeks. "And Mariana." 

"No." Alexia shook her head. "Mapi." I looked at her. "She's lying."

"Mariana's weak." I whispered. "This pregnancy it," I sighed. "it took everything out of her. Especially these last few weeks. Ale, I tried to change her mind. She won't. I can't lose her. Ale, I can't." Alexia wrapped her arms around me. "Please."

"I'll talk to her." Alexia said. "I will, Mapi." 

I sat down and Jenni rubbed my back. 

Mariana's POV:

I listened to the machines beep. The door opened. "Hey." Alexia walked in and smiled. "How you doing?"

"Spanish mom." I lifted my arms up. She laughed. "You're here too?"

"After Mapi left, Jenni asked what the problem was. The minute she heard your name that was it. Practice was over." 

"Jenni's here too?"

"Yeah. And Patri, Mariona, Aitana."

"Where's Vir?"

"Patri called her in the car. She's on her way with Nahi, Carmen and Lola. Your parents too."

"Gabriel?"

"Is with them. We got it covered, Mari." She sat next to me. "Everyone you need is coming. Just focus on you and this little girl." She put her hand on my stomach. 

"Ale," She looked at me. "I'm dying." 

"No." She shook her head.

"No I am. I have ears. Not doing the surgery will kill the baby and me." I nodded. "I heard the doctor and I heard Mapi outside. Alexia promise me, whatever happens they save this baby."

"Mari, I can't promise that."

"Alexia, please." My eyes filled with tears. "You save my daughter. You save our little girl."

"What about you? We can't lose you, Mariana." 

"You won't." I looked at her. "I'm gonna fight. But this baby, she needs more help. You get them to save her, promise is." 

"Mari, I-"

"Alexia. If it was you and Maxi, what would you want Jenni to do?" 

"Don't." She shook her head. "Don't flip it."

"You'd want them to save the baby."

"Don't do this." She got up. "I wouldn't do that."

"And why not?"

"Because I already came close to losing both of them! I already came close to losing you! I'm not going through any of that again!" I turned her back to me. "We are a team, a family. Mariana do you hear me? You are my family. I fight for my family. I'm not going to let ANYTHING happen to you or the baby." 

Mapi's POV:

We sat for hours and just listened to the beeping. Alexia and Mariana didn't talk after whatever happened in the room. Vir, Nahi, Carmen and Lola arrived from Madrid. My parents were close, Mariana's too. 

"I can't do this." Alexia got up and walked out. 

"I'll go talk to her." Jenni followed her out. 

"I'm going to get a drink, anyone want anything?" Patri stood up. 

"I'll go with you." Mariona followed her. Leila went to get the kids. 

Vir, Nahi, Carmen, Lola, and I sat with Mariana. 

"Can you guys give us a minute?" Virginia stood up. 

"Sure." Nahikari, Carmen and Lola left. 

"Mapi? Please?" I nodded and walked to her. She grabbed my arm. "I'm going to try." She whispered.

"I know." I squeezed her hand and walked out. 

Mariana's POV:

"I'm not changing my mind, Vir." I shook my head. 

"I just want to talk with my sister. Can I do that?" She sat next to me. 

"So talk." 

She leaned back in her chair. "Nahikari and I are going to start the process soon. And you know, Mari. I'm terrified." She laughed. "I don't know what I'm doing."

"None of us did. You'll figure it out."

"I know. But I still want you by my side."

"Vir." 

"Mariana, listen to me. If it comes down to it, I can't pick. I love you, you're my sister. You've always been by my side, and I will ALWAYS be by yours. But I can't make that decision. And you," She put her hands on my stomach. "I love you too, little one. So much already it's insane." She laughed through the tears. "But I can't make a decision like that." She looked up at me. "Mariana, I know you're scared, but so am I. So is Mapi. Think of your other kids. Everything you've done has been for them. Why not this?"

"I'm no good to them if I'm dead, Vir."

"You could die!" She yelled. "You're so scared of dying from the surgery, you're willing to die anyway? Mariana, Mapi needs you. Your kids need you." She scoffed. "Fuck, I need you!"

"You need to leave." I looked away.

"Mari."

"Go." 

I heard her sigh and walk to the door. "I love you." She said. "You hear me, Mari? Family. You and me. Understand?" She closed the door on her way out and I closed my eyes.

Mapi's POV:

"Well?"

"I can't be here." Virginia looked at me. "Mapi, she's like a sister to me. You know that we all know that. But I can't sit around and watch her do this. Whatever happens, just know I love both of them." She nodded. She walked to Nahikari. "You can stay if you want, but I'm leaving."

Nahi looked at me. I nodded. "I'm not letting you be alone." 

They left and I looked at Lola. "Fuck it, guess it's my turn huh?" She laughed then cleared her throat. "I'm going in." 

Tomorrow will either be Back to You or The Quiet Girl.
