Mariana's POV:
Mapi paced around the waiting room. We got to the hospital as quickly as we could. We've been waiting for a while now.
"Mari." I turned and saw Leila.
"Hey." I stood up. I took Felicia. "Where's everyone else?"
"On their way. Anything?"
"Not yet." I smiled. "Thanks for bringing them."
"Of course." Mariona said. They sat with us as we waited.
"Mapi." I sighed. "Can you sit down, please? You're making me anxious."
"Sorry." She sat down. "I'm just nervous. It's really early."
"Felicia was early too." I smiled. "And look at her."
Mapi took Felicia and smiled. "But this is earlier." She looked at me. "I'm just worried."
"Cause you're a parent." Alexia walked in with Maxi. "Worrying about your kid before he or she is even here."
She sat down with him. "Mari?" Gabriel asked.
"Yeah?" I looked at him.
"Is the baby going to be ok?"
"The baby is going to be fine." I hugged him. "Can you do me a favor?" He nodded. "When the doctor comes to get us, I need you to watch Felicia. Can you do that?"
"Of course." He smiled. "Big brother is ready."
"Big brother is about to have a new baby."
"I'm ready, Mari." He smiled. "I help Lola and Carmen with the twins."
"He does." Carmen walked in holding Xavier. "Kids a natural."
"It's gotta be a Mendes thing." Lola sighed as she sat down. "They're all good at everything."
I laughed. "Want to know what I'm not good at Lola?"
"What?"
"Being a goalkeeper."
"That's a lie." Mapi turned to me. "You stopped shots from Jenni AND Alexia before." I looked at her. "OHHHHH." She nodded. "Ok."
I looked back at Lola. "Hi. I'm Mariana, I'm 32 years old and my wife is a dumbass."
"Hi, I'm Mapi. I'm 34 years old and I'm the dumbass wife."
Lola laughed. "You two are a mess."
"A mess that is about to get bigger." Leila sighed.
"I really wish you two would have kids." Mapi said.
"Me too." I said.
"Then it's a perfect time to tell you guys that Mariona and I," Mariona stared at her. "are adopting a kitty!" She started laughing.
"I hate you." Mapi said.
"Is divorce a complicated process?" Mariona asked. "Just curious."
We continued to wait around for the doctor. Time began to fly by. Everyone else arrived along with Mapi's parents and brother. Alexia called my parents as soon as Mapi and I left for the hospital. They'd be here soon.
We heard doors open. "I'm looking for the Leon family?" He said. Mapi and I stood up. Mapi grabbed my hand. "Come with me please." He led us away.
"What's going on?" Mapi asked. "If everything alright?"
"It's very early. We know she's 32 weeks correct?" We nodded. "We wish we could delay this a little bit more, but the baby is coming. She is being monitored and when it's time someone will come get you. We know you've been waiting for some time, and I apologize for that. This baby will be moderately preterm. Once the baby is born, we'll go from there. For now, just sit tight."
We walked back and sat down. Everyone was filled in and we continued waiting. My parents arrived and we told them.
As we waited, Mapi never let go of my hand. Her leg bouncing nonstop.
She was nervous. I was too.
"Take a walk with me." I whispered. She looked at nodded. We got up and walked. "This is scary." I said. "We weren't ready for this to happen now, but it's happening. We can't ignore that. Whatever this baby needs once he or she is born, that's what we do." She nodded. I put my hand on her face. "We do this together ok? I'm not leaving."
She wrapped her arms around me. "I love you." She kissed the top of my head and we walked back. We waited some more, everyone talking. Then the nurse came.
"Leon family?" Mapi stood up. "Come with me." She smiled. We walked to a room. "As much as I'd love for you to hold your baby. This little one needs to stay in here. Just for a little while." We walked closer. "This is your baby boy."
"Baby boy." Mapi looked up. "A son." The nurse nodded. "What's that?"
"We're monitoring his heart rate, oxygen levels, just making sure everything stays normal."
"So he's ok." I looked.
"He is fine. A little small but he'll be alright."
"What happens now?" Mapi asked.
"He's going to stay here for a while. We'll continue to monitor him, let him get a little bit bigger. We'll have a better timetable depending on how he does. But he's in great hands here."
"I'll go tell everyone." I whispered to Mapi. "You stay here with him." I kissed the side of her head.
"I'll leave you with your son." The nurse smiled. I walked out with her and looked at Mapi once more.
"Were there any complications?" I asked. "With the birth?"
"No." She said. "It was a smooth delivery."
"And the surrogate? How is she?"
"She is just fine. I'm on my way to see her now."
"Can you tell her I said thank you. Mapi and I appreciate this so much."
"I will pass on the message. Congratulations." She walked away. I walked to the waiting room.
"Well?" Vir stood up.
"The delivery was smooth. The baby is small but perfectly fine. Going to be here for a while to be monitored but everything will be alright." I smiled. "We have a small but beautiful baby boy."
Names for new baby boy??
Fun fact!!! I was born prematurely. I stayed in the hospital for a few weeks after I was born because my lungs weren't developed. But here I am 22 years later. Still have trouble breathing sometimes but after almost dying a few times when I was born to about 6 years old, I'll live with that.
