"Hyung..."
The six-year-old boy whined softly, tugging at his older brother's sleeve, hoping to convince him to come play at the park. For nearly thirty minutes, Jimin had been begging for Jungkook's attention, but his older brother remained focused on the comic in his hands, seemingly oblivious to Jimin’s pleas.
"Hyung, don't you love me anymore?"
That question pierced Jungkook's heart. He glanced at his little brother, seeing the sadness etched on Jimin's face, his voice tinged with sorrow. How could Jungkook not love him? Jimin was his world—second only to their parents. He was more than just a younger brother; Jimin was the boy Jungkook had sworn to protect. No one was allowed to hurt him or make him cry—no one dared. Jungkook had once severed ties with his best friend after the boy had made Jimin cry by calling him weak and soft-hearted. That day, Jungkook had chosen his brother over a friendship that no longer mattered.
Jimin, heart heavy and eyes brimming with tears, slowly moved from Jungkook's bed toward the door. His small hands trembled as he thought about his brother's unusual silence, a silence that felt like rejection. Jungkook had never denied Jimin's requests before. He had never ignored him—until today, when he was determined to finish the new comic he'd just bought.
But then, Jungkook spoke, his voice soft but firm. "Go change your clothes and wait for me downstairs."
The words of the twelve-year-old boy brought an instant smile to his little brother's face. Jimin’s sadness evaporated in an instant as he ran back toward Jungkook, leaping into his brother's arms with pure joy.
"You're lucky because I'm a strong person," Jungkook said, his arms tightening protectively around Jimin's small frame. He was used to this by now. Whether Jimin was happy or sad, a koala-like hug from his little brother was always his favorite way to seek comfort.
"I know you're a strong person! You're my brother," Jimin praised, wrapping his arms tightly around Jungkook's neck and resting his head on his older brother's shoulder.
"Thanks, Hyung. I love you," Jimin whispered. It was a phrase Jimin often said. 'I love you' was sacred to him, and every night before bed, he would visit Jungkook’s room, kiss him on the cheek, and say his goodnight. The bond between them was full of love, unbreakable.
Jungkook smiled softly. "Do you want to go to the park, or should I keep hugging you forever?"
Jimin giggled and nuzzled closer to his brother’s neck. "Give me five minutes. I love hugging you. You're so comfortable."
Jungkook chuckled as he gently rubbed Jimin’s back. After ten minutes of embracing his little koala, Jungkook finally stood up. They made their way to the park hand in hand, with Jimin bouncing happily beside him. Jungkook was relieved to see no other kids around; he didn’t want to deal with any fights or scuffles at the playground.
"Hyung, I want to play on that!" Jimin exclaimed, his chubby fingers pointing toward the bright green slide. Without hesitation, he grabbed Jungkook's hand, and they ran toward the slide together.
"Be careful," Jungkook advised, watching as Jimin rushed to climb the stairs. He knew how clumsy his brother could be. It was rare that they returned from the playground without some sort of scrape or bruise.
Jimin laughed joyfully as he slid down, his face glowing with excitement. Jungkook greeted him with a proud smile as he reached the bottom. These were the moments they cherished the most. Just the two of them, enjoying a weekend together—no friends needed.
Now, they were at the swings. "Kookie Hyung, push me," Jimin asked, his voice filled with eagerness.
"Hold on tight," Jungkook instructed, giving the swing a gentle push. Even though it wasn’t fast by Jungkook's standards, Jimin squealed with delight, feeling like he was flying. After a while, Jungkook sat on the swing next to him and, with a playful grin, jumped off mid-swing, landing perfectly on the ground.
"Wow, Hyung!" Jimin gasped, eyes wide in admiration. He wanted to try it too. But as soon as he jumped, he stumbled and fell, scraping his knee.
"Mochi!" Jungkook's heart sank as he rushed to his little brother, who was holding his knee and sobbing softly.
"Hyung, it hurts..." Jimin whimpered, his voice trembling with pain as he tried to hold back his tears. He knew their father would be upset when they got home.
"I know, Mochi. Don’t cry. I know you’re strong," Jungkook reassured him, gently wiping away the tears rolling down Jimin’s cheeks. He hated seeing his brother cry.
"But it really hurts," Jimin mumbled, seeking sympathy from his older brother. His tears flowed more freely now. Jungkook quickly scooped him up and placed Jimin on his back.
"Come on, let's go home," Jungkook said, giving his little brother a piggyback ride. As they walked, Jimin’s sobs quieted down.
"Mochi, look!" Jimin’s face lit up as he noticed small flakes of snow falling around them.
"Kookie Hyung, it’s snowing!"
Jungkook smiled at the sight of his brother’s excitement. "Your favorite season," he noted.
"Yes, Hyung! I love snow. You’re going to make a snowman for me, right?"
Despite his low tolerance for cold weather, Jimin loved winter. He always looked forward to building snowmen with Jungkook and celebrating Christmas, knowing he’d get gifts from their parents and, most importantly, from Jungkook.
"Of course! This year, I’m going to build the biggest snowman for my little brother!" Jungkook promised.
Jimin giggled at his brother’s enthusiasm. He knew Jungkook would keep his word—he always did. For his little mochi, Jungkook would do anything.
When they finally returned home, their father was waiting for them, and his expression was stern. Jimin's scraped knee didn’t go unnoticed.
"Jungkook, how could you let this happen?!" their father scolded.
Jungkook immediately stepped forward, ready to take responsibility. "It’s my fault, Dad. I pushed him too hard, and he fell."
Jungkook held Jimin protectively as their father continued to scold them. Jimin, already teary-eyed from the pain, began to cry again. He hated seeing his brother get into trouble because of him.
"You’re grounded, Jeon Jungkook. No going out, no phone, no TV, and no games."
"Kookie Hyung..." Jimin’s lip quivered as he tried to hold back more tears. His brother was being punished because of him.
"Don’t cry, Mochi. I’m fine," Jungkook whispered, winking at his little brother. "As long as I can still see you, I’m okay."
And he meant it. Jungkook could live without his friends, without his phone, without his favorite movies, and without his games. But he couldn’t live without Jimin—his precious little mochi. That was something he knew for certain.
