“This is my favorite place,” Jimin said with a nostalgic smile.
Jungkook and Jimin had spent the day exploring Jimin’s hometown, visiting the places that held his most cherished memories. Jimin had taken him to see some of the spots he and Seulgi used to frequent as kids, but the lighthouse by the beach was his ultimate favorite. Every weekend, he and Seulgi would come here, listening to the rhythmic crash of the waves while watching the sweeping beam of light from the towering structure."It’s beautiful," Jungkook murmured, taking in the peaceful view. "The sound of the waves is..."
"Calming..." Jimin finished, his voice soft, as his fingers intertwined with Jungkook's. They walked along the shoreline together, the cool sea breeze brushing against their skin. Jimin couldn’t help but think how different it was with Jungkook by his side. If Seulgi were here, she would already be splashing him with water, making him laugh and run around. But with Jungkook, everything felt serene—comfortable, even in the chilly weather.
Jungkook squeezed Jimin’s hand gently. "I’m happy you’re sharing these memories with me," he said sincerely, his eyes soft with affection. He loved hearing about Jimin’s past, wanting to know everything—his favorite places, his childhood friends, the little things that made Jimin who he was today.
Jimin chuckled lightly. "I had a pretty simple childhood. Nothing too exciting, really."
Though Jimin downplayed it, his childhood had been full of quiet moments, often spent helping his mother run their small business. His happiest times were when he could sneak away to play with Seulgi, even if only for a little while.
As memories surfaced, Jimin smiled, his expression bright with happiness. Jungkook watched the way Jimin’s face lit up, and without thinking, he leaned in to steal a quick kiss. He wrapped his arms around Jimin, pulling him into a warm hug.
"Well, now your life has gotten a lot more interesting," Jungkook teased, his lips curling into a grin.
Jimin laughed, resting his head on Jungkook’s shoulder. "That’s because I have you, my Jeon Jungkookie hyung," he said playfully, pinching Jungkook’s nose. "You’re handsome..." He tapped Jungkook’s cheeks, grinning wider. "You’re cute..." His hands wandered to Jungkook’s muscular arms, giving them a gentle squeeze. "You’re hot... And you’re so kind. You’re always patient with Jeon Jimin’s temper."
Jungkook rolled his eyes with a fond smile. Being patient with Jimin was something he’d mastered. Whether Jimin was being stubborn or playful, Jungkook was always there to indulge him, no matter what.
Jimin continued, his voice dropping to a soft murmur. "And he’s... such a good boyfriend."
Now it was Jimin’s turn to lean in, sneaking a quick kiss on Jungkook’s lips."And he’s..."
Jungkook raised an eyebrow, amused. "There’s more?"
Jimin nodded, his eyes sparkling. "He loves his Mochi."
Jungkook’s heart swelled at Jimin’s words. He broke into a wide smile. "You’re absolutely right!" Jungkook said, pointing at himself dramatically. "This Jeon Jungkook really loves this Jeon Jimin." He gently tapped Jimin’s nose with his finger before planting another soft kiss on his lips. Seeing Jimin smile, those crescent eyes twinkling, was his favorite thing in the world. Jimin always looked so cute, like the perfect little Mochi he loved so much.
"I love you too, Kookie hyung," Jimin whispered, his voice tender. "You make me happy, always."
This moment was exactly what Jimin needed—something to help him forget about the upcoming surgery. Next week, Jimin would be undergoing a major operation, the final step in his battle against cancer. He had finished his rounds of chemotherapy, and the tumor had shrunk enough to make the surgery possible. But still, the thought of what lay ahead weighed heavily on both of them.
Jungkook pulled Jimin closer, resting his chin on top of Jimin’s head. "Don’t be scared."
"I’m not," Jimin replied softly, though there was a trace of vulnerability in his voice. "I know you, mom, dad, Seulgi, eomma, and Mingyu hyung will all be by my side. So, I’m not scared. Besides..." He paused, pulling out a small chain from under his shirt—the one Jungkook had given him on his seventh birthday. "I have this."
Jungkook’s face broke into a wide smile, his eyes filled with warmth. He reached for the chain around his own neck, pulling it out to reveal the matching piece. Together, their necklaces formed a heart. It was their symbol, a token of their love that had endured through everything.
"This is my strength," Jimin said, holding his chain tightly, his eyes shining with emotion.
Jungkook leaned in, pressing his forehead against Jimin’s. "And you’re mine, Mochi. Always."
In that moment, all the worries and fears about the surgery faded away. For now, all that mattered was this—the love they shared, stronger than anything life could throw at them.
