After dinner, they all moved inside, excited for movie night. Mrs. Jeon had selected a comedy, well aware that her youngest son wasn’t a fan of scary movies or anything involving violence. Jimin preferred romantic comedies that made him laugh.
“Cold?” Mingyu asked, noticing Jimin rubbing his hands together to warm them.
Pouty Jimin nodded in response, his cheeks slightly flushed from the chill in the air. Today was particularly cold. Without hesitation, Mingyu removed his sweater and draped it over Jimin's shoulders.
“Thanks, hyung,” Jimin said, a grateful smile spreading across his face. He always appreciated Mingyu's thoughtful gestures. Whenever Jimin went for treatment, Mingyu was right there by his side, offering support.
“It’s no problem. Just let me know if you need anything else,” Mingyu replied, his voice gentle.
Jimin smiled wider and leaned his head against Mingyu’s shoulder. As the movie played, the room filled with laughter, everyone enjoying the comedic scenes. Jimin, especially, laughed heartily, his body leaning into Mingyu.
But one person in the room wasn’t focused on the film. Jungkook’s gaze was fixed on Jimin, watching his brother's joyous expression and the way his hand rested comfortably on Mingyu’s lap. Jungkook noticed how Mingyu’s arm wrapped around Jimin's waist, a sight that twisted something in his chest.
When their eyes met, Jimin quickly shifted his gaze away, unable to hold Jungkook’s stare. Jungkook felt a pang of disappointment; it seemed they were worlds apart now. Every time he tried to connect, Jimin would dodge, and Yumi would be there to block him.
“What are you looking at, JK?” Yumi asked, noticing Jungkook’s lack of attention to the movie.
Jungkook’s focus remained on Jimin, which made Yumi scoff in disbelief. To grab his attention, she playfully hugged his arm and planted a kiss on his cheek.
“What the hell, Yumi!” Jungkook exclaimed, pushing her away, his irritation boiling over. His eyes darted back to Jimin, whose expression revealed a pain Jungkook recognized all too well. Despite no longer being together, he could see that his brother was hurting.
All eyes turned to Jungkook, surprised by his outburst.
“Why? What happened?” Mrs. Jeon asked, panic evident in her voice as she took in Jungkook’s flushed face, which seemed to hold back a storm of emotions.
Without another word, Jungkook sprang to his feet, pulling Jimin away from the group and out of the house. The stunned silence hung heavy in the air, everyone exchanging glances, unsure of what to do. Yumi instinctively wanted to follow, but Mr. Jeon gently stopped her.
“Let them talk,” he said, concern etched on his face.
He could feel the tension that had enveloped their home since Jimin and Mingyu arrived. The warmth and banter that usually filled the air had vanished; his sons barely spoke, and Jimin consistently avoided any interaction with Jungkook.
This wasn’t how it should be. His boys were drifting apart, no longer sharing smiles or teasing one another like they used to. Mr. Jeon longed for the days when Jimin would whine about Jungkook refusing his requests, or when Jungkook would defend his brother, laughter echoing through their home. Now, all that was left were echoes of lost moments—his wife’s laughter and his sons’ happiness seemed like distant memories.
