"Yumi!"
The tension exploded as soon as Jungkook and Jimin stepped through the door of the Jeon family house. Yumi, her face contorted with fury, shoved Jimin hard enough to send him stumbling backward.
“Why can’t you stay away from Jungkook? Why?” Her voice shook with a mix of desperation and anger.Yumi had done everything she could to capture Jungkook’s heart, but no matter how hard she tried, it was always Jimin he gravitated toward. She couldn’t stand it any longer.
Jungkook’s eyes darkened as he watched Jimin stagger from Yumi’s push. He was done tolerating this. In an instant, he closed the gap between him and Yumi, gripping her jaw firmly, pushing her back against the wall.
“Don’t you ever touch him again,” Jungkook growled, his voice low and threatening. “I won’t hesitate to do worse.”
"What the hell, JK!" Mingyu stepped in, pulling Jungkook away from Yumi. He could see Yumi was in the wrong, but Jungkook needed to control his temper. In Mingyu's eyes, Jungkook was always the level-headed one, the one who should know better.
"We’re over, Yumi. This ends now," Jungkook declared, his voice void of emotion.
Yumi's expression shifted from rage to panic in a heartbeat. She knew she was losing him. Jungkook was slipping through her fingers, and she couldn’t bear the thought of losing him to Jimin. She forced herself to cry, knowing how soft-hearted Jungkook was—tears always seemed to work on him.
“Honey, I’m sorry,” she sobbed, reaching out to him.
Jungkook, unfazed, brushed her off and turned to Jimin, kneeling down to help him up. His large hands gently cupped Jimin’s face as he checked for any sign of injury. “Are you okay?”
Jimin winced slightly, nodding, though he was clearly in pain. “Yeah... it’s nothing,” he muttered, though his tailbone throbbed.
“Mom, can you take Mochi to his room?” Jungkook asked, his voice gentle. He wanted Jimin out of the situation before things escalated further. His parents, understanding the gravity of the moment, silently led Jimin away.
"Mingyu, can you leave us alone?" Jungkook’s tone was firm but not unkind.
“JK...” Mingyu hesitated. He didn’t want to leave Yumi alone in such an emotionally charged moment, but he respected Jungkook’s request.
“Please.”
Reluctantly, Mingyu nodded and backed away, casting one last concerned glance at Yumi before leaving the room.
Yumi’s tears flowed harder as she watched Mingyu walk out, but her focus snapped back to Jungkook. “JK, please, I know I messed up! I’m so sorry!” She threw herself at him, her hands clutching at his shirt as she tried to close the emotional gap between them.
“You should apologize to Jimin, not me,” Jungkook said coldly, stepping back to put distance between them.
“No! Why should I? He’s the one who took you from me!” she screamed, her desperation flaring up again.
Jungkook sighed. “This is why we can’t talk, Yumi. You never see the bigger picture.”
“I’m saying exactly what’s true!” she snapped.
Jungkook shook his head. “No, Yumi. We’ve been over this too many times. You know why I came back to Korea. You cheated on me, Yumi. I told you I wanted to end it, but you couldn’t accept it. And I’ve had enough.”
Jungkook’s mind flashed back to the night he found out. The image of Yumi in the arms of another man at the club still haunted him. He had stayed for too long—out of guilt, out of obligation to Yumi’s mother who had begged him to stay—but his heart had already left the relationship.
“I’ll change, I promise!” Yumi clung to him harder, her voice breaking. “Just one more chance. I’ll be the woman you want. Please, just give me that chance.”
Jungkook closed his eyes, exhaling deeply. He gently pried her hands off his shirt and gave her a sad smile. “Yumi, I’ve given you too many chances. I don’t have any left.”
“JK, please,” she sobbed. “I love you. I’ll do anything—anything you want. I can’t lose you.”
Jungkook’s expression softened, but not in the way Yumi hoped. It was the softness of someone who was done, someone who had made peace with the end. “You won’t lose me completely,” he whispered. “I’ll still be here for you if you need someone to talk to, but only as a friend. Nothing more.”
Yumi’s breath hitched. “No. You can’t do this to me. I’ll die without you. I’ll... I’ll do what I did before.” Her voice lowered as she played her final card, the one she knew would break him. “You’ll regret it.”
Jungkook’s heart twisted. He knew what she was referring to—the time she had threatened to hurt herself to keep him from leaving. But this time was different. He wasn’t that easily swayed anymore.
“I’m sorry, Yumi. I hope you think carefully before you do something rash. You still have your family, and you have Mingyu. He loves you. You know that.”
Yumi collapsed onto the floor, her sobs racking her body as she cried into her hands. She couldn’t believe it was really over. Jungkook had always been patient with her, always forgiven her mistakes. But not this time. This time, she had lost him for good.
Mingyu, who had been lingering in the hallway, stepped back into the room. His heart ached for Yumi, but he knew this was the right thing for both of them. “Let’s go, Yumi.”
She looked up at him with tear-filled eyes, her chest heaving. “Mingyu...”
Mingyu gave her a soft, reassuring smile and helped her to her feet, wrapping his arm around her for support as they walked toward the door. “This isn’t your place anymore, Yumi.”
Yumi buried her face in Mingyu’s shoulder, her sobs quieting as they stepped outside. Mingyu held her close, the friend she needed most, even if it hurt him too.
