Jungkook paced back and forth in the small confines of his office, anxiety tightening his chest with each passing minute. Jimin had vanished without a word. When he’d woken up that morning, the other side of the bed was cold, and there was no note, no text, nothing. Jimin’s phone had been switched off for hours, only amplifying Jungkook’s worry.
“Where are you, Mochi?” he muttered under his breath, running a hand through his hair for the tenth time.
Just as his thoughts spiraled further, the door creaked open, and a familiar voice called out, “Kookie hyung!”
Jungkook spun around to see Jimin, a broad smile plastered across his face as he bounded into the room, his short legs moving as fast as they could.
“God, Mochi!” Jungkook exhaled, relief flooding his body.
Jimin ran straight into his brother’s arms, throwing himself at Jungkook with the force of someone who had missed him dearly. “Hyung,” he giggled, nestling into the embrace, “were you waiting for me?”
Jungkook's arms immediately wrapped tightly around Jimin, pulling him close. He planted a series of soft kisses on his forehead, as though he needed to reassure himself that his brother was truly there, safe. The anxiety that had gnawed at him all morning melted away in an instant.
“Don’t ever do that again,” Jungkook scolded gently, resting his chin on top of Jimin’s head. “You had me worried sick. Where were you?”
“The beach,” Jimin lied smoothly, his voice steady even as his heart pounded in his chest. His mind, however, was still reeling from the earlier conversation with his doctor. The words echoed in his ears, haunting him with every step.
‘Your cancer is still in its early stages... it's treatable. But you must follow through with the hospital's treatment plan.’
His stomach dropped again as he remembered the doctor's serious expression and the test results that had shattered his world. Everything felt surreal. How would he tell Jungkook? What would happen to him? The uncertainty was suffocating.
Jungkook pulled back slightly to study Jimin’s face. “Are you okay?”
Jimin nodded quickly, plastering on his best reassuring smile. “Yeah, hyung, I’m fine.”
But Jungkook wasn’t convinced. He knew Jimin too well. There was something off, something hidden behind that smile. He was about to press further, but Jimin cut him off, changing the subject.
“Why were you so worried? You were sleeping like a baby. I didn’t want to wake you up,” Jimin said, trying to keep things light. “And hyung, did you know you snore? Gosh, so loud!”
Jungkook’s eyes widened in mock indignation. “I do not!”
“Yes, you do! You were snoring so loudly, it was like a train passing through. It disturbed my precious beauty sleep.”
Jimin’s teasing did its job, making Jungkook chuckle despite his lingering unease. Jimin gazed up at him, his eyes soft but alert, knowing full well that his brother was still mulling something over.
“If I snore again, you should kiss me. That’ll make it stop,” Jungkook said, wiggling his eyebrows playfully.
“Eeeeew, why would I do that?” Jimin scrunched up his nose, pretending to be grossed out.
“So you can sleep peacefully, of course!” Jungkook grinned.
Jimin placed his hands on Jungkook’s cheeks, grinning back. “I have a better idea.”
Jungkook raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “What’s that?”
Jimin’s eyes sparkled mischievously as he leaned in closer. “Starting tonight... you’re going to sleep on the couch!”
Before Jungkook could protest, Jimin gave him a playful shove and tried to dart away, but he didn’t get far. Jungkook was quicker, grabbing him from behind and wrapping him in a tight hug. His hands found Jimin’s waist, tickling him mercilessly.
“H-Hyung! Stop!” Jimin gasped between bouts of uncontrollable laughter.
They both tumbled to the floor, their laughter filling the small office. When they finally stopped, both out of breath, Jimin grabbed Jungkook’s hand, their fingers interlacing naturally. They lay there for a moment, basking in the simple joy of being together.
“Hyung...” Jimin’s voice was soft, barely a whisper now.
“Yes, baby?” Jungkook turned his head to look at him, his expression full of love.
“I’m waiting for the snow. For winter...”
Jungkook blinked, surprised by the sudden change in conversation. “Why?”
“I want you to make the biggest snowman for me. The biggest one you’ve ever made,” Jimin said, his eyes twinkling with childlike wonder.
“A snowman?” Jungkook chuckled. “That’s your grand request?”
Jimin smiled, but there was a heaviness behind his words that Jungkook didn’t catch. “Yes. It’s my last wish from you.”
Jungkook frowned, his playful demeanor shifting into something more serious. “What are you talking about, Mochi? Don’t say things like that.”
Jimin’s smile wavered, but he kept his gaze steady on his brother. “You’ll grant my wish, right, Kookie hyung?”
Jungkook was now on top of Jimin, holding himself up in a push-up position as he looked down at him. The sincerity in Jimin’s voice made his chest tighten.
“I’ll grant all your wishes, Jeon Jimin. Every single one.”
Jungkook leaned down and kissed Jimin’s forehead tenderly, sealing his promise. Whatever Jimin wanted, he would give. No questions asked. Anything to see that smile stay on his face.
“Anything,” Jungkook whispered, as the snowman request lingered in his mind, wondering what Jimin wasn’t telling him. But for now, all he cared about was making his brother happy.
