A few hours before Jungkook and Jimin’s planned dinner date, chaos erupted in the hospital room.

"This is all your fault!" Yumi's mother screamed, her hands trembling as she hit Jungkook’s chest. He stood there, silent, unable to defend himself. Her words cut deeper than any physical blow.

Jungkook’s heart sank as he watched Yumi’s mother, tears of fury glistening in her eyes. She was beside herself with grief, and he understood. Her daughter, Yumi, had attempted suicide because of him. She had tried to end her life by cutting her wrist, and now, she lay in a hospital bed, pale and fragile.

"You must take responsibility for what happened!" she shouted again, her voice breaking.

Jungkook sat beside Yumi’s bed, his eyes hollow as he gazed at her. She looked so small and broken, her skin ghostly white against the sterile sheets. Guilt weighed heavily on his chest. How could things have come to this? How had he let Yumi fall so far?

“I’m sorry," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. He reached for Yumi’s hand, gently cradling it in his own. "This is all my fault. Please, don’t do this to yourself."

Jungkook stayed by her side for nearly two hours, his mind racing, filled with regret and sorrow. He had never meant to hurt Yumi. She had once been his everything, his fiancée, the person he thought he would spend his life with. But now, everything was different. His heart belonged to someone else, and he knew Yumi couldn’t accept that. He couldn’t blame her.

Suddenly, Yumi stirred, her eyes fluttering open. Her gaze locked onto Jungkook, and a spark of anger flashed across her face.

"What are you doing here?" Her voice was sharp, laced with bitterness.

"Yumi…"

"You did this to me! You did this!" she screamed, tears streaming down her face as she thrashed against the bed. Her wrist, still bandaged from her attempt, started to bleed again.

Panicking, Jungkook grabbed her hands to stop her from hurting herself further. "Please, stop. Don’t do this. I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry..."

Yumi sobbed uncontrollably, her whole body shaking. “You can’t leave me. You can’t! You promised me a life together, Jungkook. You promised!”

"I-I..." Jungkook stammered, his throat tight with emotion.

Yumi pushed him back, her eyes wild with desperation as she clung to him. "Look at me, Jungkook. Look at what you’ve done to me!" she cried, her tears soaking her pillow. She looked so lost, so broken, and it tore Jungkook apart.

He gently wiped her tears, but his hands trembled. He couldn’t look her in the eyes. The guilt was suffocating. Yumi’s pain was his doing.

"Kiss me," she suddenly whispered, her voice shaky but demanding.

"Yumi…" Jungkook hesitated, his heart screaming for him to stop, but his body froze.

"Kiss me, Jk!" she pleaded, her eyes wide with desperation. "I know you still love me. You’re just confused. Kiss me, and we can be us again. We can go back."

Jungkook hesitated, torn between the past and the future. His mind flashed to Jimin, his heart aching for his Mochi—the person he truly loved, the one who held his heart completely. But Yumi was here, breaking in front of him, and he couldn’t bear to hurt her any more than he already had. Against his better judgment, he leaned in and kissed her, a kiss filled with sorrow, not love.

It was a kiss for closure, not for rekindling.

"Promise me, Jk," Yumi whispered, her arms wrapping tightly around his waist as she sobbed into his chest. "Promise me you won’t leave me. I can’t survive if you leave. I’ll die, Jungkook. I swear I’ll die."

Jungkook felt his chest tighten as her words echoed in his mind. He was trapped, torn between guilt and love, between his past and his present. He wanted to comfort her, to ease her pain, but he knew his heart no longer belonged to her. It hadn’t for a long time.

Yumi eventually fell asleep in his arms, exhausted from the emotional outburst. Carefully, Jungkook slipped out of her grasp and left the room. His mind was heavy as he made his way outside, the cold evening air hitting his face. He inhaled deeply, trying to clear his head, but the weight of the situation pressed down on him.

He needed to think. He needed to make decisions not just for himself but for everyone around him. He couldn’t keep hurting the people he cared about.

With a shaky hand, he pulled out his phone and typed a quick message.

Jk:
Mingyu, I need your help. Mochi’s waiting for me at the park. Please take him home.

Jungkook sent the message and exhaled slowly. He couldn't face Jimin right now, not after what had just happened. His heart ached, knowing Jimin was waiting for him, probably worried. But he couldn’t go to him like this, not with the guilt of what had just transpired with Yumi weighing
