"Yumi told me."
Mingyu’s words hung in the air like a heavy weight. Jungkook sighed, already knowing this was inevitable. Yumi and Mingyu were close, best friends since childhood. It was only a matter of time before she confided in him.He didn’t see the point in pretending. Mingyu deserved the truth.
"We're no longer compatible."
Jungkook’s voice was calm, but his heart wasn’t."Huh…" Mingyu scoffed, leaning back in his chair. "Not compatible? After what—only a few weeks of you being back? That’s it?"
The edge in Mingyu’s tone was unmistakable. He didn’t buy it.
Jungkook clenched his jaw, already sensing the storm brewing in his friend's mind.
"You don’t understand.""Oh, I understand plenty." Mingyu’s eyes darkened. "Jungkook, I’ve known you for twelve years. I’ve known you through everything. Don’t stand there and pretend like I don’t get it."
"Love can’t be forced, Mingyu." Jungkook’s voice dropped as if he were trying to convince himself as much as his friend. "It’s something that happens naturally."
Naturally. That’s what he kept telling himself, trying to justify the fact that he no longer felt anything for Yumi. The spark was gone—if it had ever been there to begin with. But he knew what he felt for Jimin was real. He didn’t need to question that.
"So," Mingyu leaned forward, narrowing his eyes, "this so-called 'real love' you’re talking about... it’s for your brother? Seriously? He’s your brother, Jungkook!"
The way Mingyu spat the word ‘brother’ caught Jungkook off guard. He wasn’t supposed to know. Jungkook had never told anyone the real reason he broke off the engagement with Yumi. The love he felt for Jimin wasn’t just brotherly. It went deeper. And that was the part no one would understand.
Jungkook’s throat tightened as he uttered, "He’s not my real brother."
Mingyu stared at him in disbelief. "What? Does that make it any better? Does your mom and dad know about this?"
"No." Jungkook shook his head. "Not yet. I’ll tell them when the time is right."
Mingyu ran his hand through his hair, frustration radiating off him. The pieces were finally falling into place. Jungkook had always been protective of Jimin, always talked about him with a certain kind of tenderness. Mingyu thought it was normal sibling affection. Now, it seemed like something far more complicated.
"He’s your fucking brother, Jeon Jungkook!" Mingyu's voice rose, filled with disbelief.
"He’s not!" Jungkook snapped, his own voice echoing in the room. The tension was suffocating.
Mingyu stood up, pacing now. "Are you hearing yourself? You left Yumi because of this? Because of your brother?"
"I told you, he’s not really my brother." Jungkook’s voice grew strained, the weight of Mingyu’s judgment pressing hard. "What part of that do you not understand?"
"None of this makes sense, man!" Mingyu threw his hands up. "What do you think Yumi’s gonna feel when she finds out? What do you think your parents will feel? You’ve been with Yumi for years, and you’re just throwing it all away for—" he paused, shaking his head in disbelief, "for this?"
Jungkook took a deep breath, his heart pounding in his chest. "I don’t care anymore." His voice was quieter now, but resolute. "It’s been twelve years, Mingyu. Twelve years of keeping this locked up. I can’t lose him again."
Mingyu stopped pacing, his gaze softening, but still filled with concern. "I don’t even know what to say, man. What you're doing, it's going to hurt Yumi. She loves you, Jungkook."
"I know." Jungkook’s voice faltered for the first time. "I know I hurt her. But I can’t lie to myself anymore. I love Jimin. I’ve loved him since we were kids."
Mingyu let out a long breath, his shoulders sagging. "This is... you’re playing with fire, Jungkook."
"I don’t care." Jungkook’s eyes were fierce, unwavering. "I won’t leave him again. Not this time."
