Chapter 44

Carol stood there speechless. Thor calmly waited for an answer. Tears fell down her face, and she smiled. She was caught off guard by his question, but finally answered it.

"Yes, I will be your queen of Asgard."

Thor placed the ring on her finger. It was made of the remains of Mjolnir. It had Norse carvings on it that said these words:

"ᚠᚨᛏᛖ ᛒᚱᛟᚢᚷᚺᛏ ᚢᛋ ᛏᛟᚷᛖᛏᚺᛖᚱ, ᛞᛖᛋᛏᛁᚾᚤ ᛒᛁᚾᛞᛋ ᚢᛋ."

(Fate brought us together, destiny binds us.)

Thor got up from his knees, and kissed her for a long time. Carol kissed him back, and smiled.

"Do you like your surprise?"

"It was more than I could have ever dreamed of."

"I'm taking that as a yes."

"Watching the sun rise and you proposing all in one day, is the best thing that has happened to me."

"I knew you'd love it."

He smiled, not wanting this moment to end. The sun rose to the highest point in the sky, giving a great view of the mountains in the distance. The river flowed calmly through the valley, while birds chirped.

"I really don't want to leave this place."

"Neither do I, but the others are probably wondering if we died."

"That is a fact. Tony would probably send out a search party."

"He did that when Peter was kidnapped by Toomes."

Thor packed all their stuff in his backpack, and grabbed Carol's. They walked down the trail, looking at the glimmering river.

"It is way more beautiful the second time."

"It also helps that there's sunlight."

When they reached the bottom of the mountain, the quinjet was waiting for them. Thor set their stuff in the back, and headed to the pilots seat. Carol sat in the copilot seat, starting up the plane.

"It's been a while since I've flown one of these."

"It's similar to most human planes."

Carol stared the engines and took off towards the U.S. She made the plane do a barrel roll for fun, but Thor held on for dear life.

"Where did you learn that?!"

"The Air Force. I was one of the best pilots they ever had."

"I don't like. Please don't do that again."

She brought the plane back to normal, occasionally doing some fancy flying tricks.

"Do you see the compound?"

"Yup. Watch this, I'm gonna scare them."

Carol flew the plane extremely low, and very fast. She raced past the compound, almost giving her friends heart attacks. She landed the plane, and got out.

"Quit doing your flying tricks."

"I love scaring you guys."

"You won't love scaring us when I beat your ass."

"Like you could do that?"

Thor laughed at Tony, who was pissed about almost dying.

"How'd it go Thor?"

"Better than I thought it would."

"Did she say yes?"

"Yes."

"Congrats on the engagement."

They told the rest of the Avengers who congratulated them as well.

"That ring isn't going to break."

"It's made of Mjolnir. It will never break."

"What does it say on the ring?"

"Fate brought us together, destiny binds us."

"Thor really knew what he was doing."

"Thor told me he planned it down to the smallest detail."

"He is dedicated."

"That why I love him. He overdoes everything."

"Tony does the same thing, but with more him."

"He too obsessed with himself."

"It's 'The Great Tony Stark' savior of Earth."

"He's far from great. But it will have to do."

Carol rolled her eyes, laughing because it was true. She went inside, searching for Thor.

"Found you."

"How's it feel to be engaged to the god of thunder?"

"Better than ever."

She kissed him softly, and grinned.

"Look who came to see us."

Carol picked Goose up off the floor and held her like a small child. Thor scrubbed her ears, letting Goose lick his hand.

"My favorite cat!"

Goose meowed in response, earning laughs from both Carol and Thor.

"So meowy."

"It's Goose."

Carol set Goose on the floor, and sat down on their bed. Thor joined her, along with Goose. The flerken kneaded on Thor's pants, purring loudly.

"Why are her claws so sharp?"

"Just wait until she bites you. It's so much worse. That's how Fury lost his eye."

"I always wondered how that happened. One of the most dangerous people on this planet lost his eye to a cat."

"Fury will kill you if you mention it."

"He can try."

Carol laughed while Thor continued to pet Goose. Goose eventually hopped off of Thor's lap, heading to the kitchen. Carol rested her head on Thor, letting him play with her hair. He smiled and kissed the top of her head.

"I can't believe what has happened today. I hiked a mountain with the most beautiful girl in the universe, proposed, and looked at an amazing sunset."

"Neither can I. I would probably rate this day as the best one yet."

"The day isn't over yet. There is still one thing I haven't completed off my list."

"What is that?"

Thor answered her question with a kiss. She returned the favor with a longer one. Thor smiled as he kissed her again. This was the best day of his life.

An object slowly drifted through space. It passed by a planet, using its gravity to travel faster. It passed the sun, losing some of the outer layers to heat. The ship was fairly damaged, with most of the systems broken. It looked like it had been through a few battles, but the marks on it weren't from enemy ships.

"Can anyone hear me? I repeat, can anyone hear me?"

The ship past the sun, and into the outer reaches of space. A distant nebula shone on the ship, giving it a burning hue of color. The power cells sparked, and the lights flickered. Light from the nearby star crept into the ship, revealing its dark interior. The controls were fried, as well as the navigation system. A few crates had been emptied, left with only a few scraps of metal.

"Does anyone copy? Please someone respond. The destroyers of worlds are coming."
