Sorry for the long hiatus. After writing twenty chapters nonstop for almost two months, I needed a break! I also had many things going on with my school extracurricular activities. I'll be back now and post 2-4 chapters a week. This will be until chapter forty when I may need another break, depending how long this story goes. I have a storyboard of what events are going to happen, but I'm still undecided what parts of the stories are going to be dragged or sped. Gym #4 phase took a lot of chapters, as you all probably noticed, but 1 and 2 only took a couple. It depends on the time of the story. Without further ado, time to get on with the next chapter!
The next few hours went by in a blur, your emotions travelling from confusion to sadness to anger. Most of the thoughts passing through your head were questions as to why he assumed you the feelings you were going through were just those of a common fangirl?
You decided to channel your anger into your next objective. Obtain the next Gym Badge.
Now, you sat in the Stow-on-Side Gym waiting for your turn to attack the Ghost Gym Leader. You wore the Fire Gym Uniform with pride, thinking of your battle with Kabu. According to other trainers, though Allister was definitely a child prodigy like Leon, his battle is significantly easier than Kabu's if you have the right strategy. You mulled over your choices and decided on starting out with Eevee, even though its Normal attacks didn't affect Ghost, it was the same vice versa. He wouldn't be able to use Ghost Type moves against Eevee.
"Number Six, it's your turn," the receptionist called from the front.
You stood up and made your way to the opening gate doors. Usually your breath was taken away by the bright lights and the audience screaming, but today you were numb.
"Welcome Number Six, (y/n) (l/n), the second-highest ranked Challenger this season!" the announcer boomed.
Your jaw clenched. You could guess who was first, and you really weren't in the mood to be compared. It also astounded you how well you were doing compared to the other trainers in the Gym Challenge.
You did like the dark purple theme of the Gym. It was unsettling and comfortable at the same time. It reminded you of your emo phase from a few years back.
You and Allister did the traditional opposite line walk and met in the middle. You knew he was young, but you didn't expect this. He seemed to be six or seven years old! He was short and timid in stature.
"...'M Allister," spoke the Gym Leader shyly. "H-Here I go..."
With just that short interaction, he turned away and headed to his spot. You did the same and clutched Eevee's Poke-ball. You took in a deep breath and sent out Eevee, while Allister sent out Yamask. Using your anger against Leon, you were determined to win this battle and move on with the Challenge and get closer to defeating him in the final league.
"Let's get going! Eevee, use Bite!" you called.
Eevee raced forward and bit the Yamask, which took a lot of damage from the Yamask. Allister nodded to the Yamask, who used the move Disable on Eevee. You looked in shock as Eevee was surrounded by dark energy and its front legs locked. It wouldn't be able to use the move Quick Attack, though you didn't mind since it wouldn't have any effect anyway.
Eevee could still move, though it wouldn't be able to generate attacks through its legs. However, you knew one more Bite was enough to knock the Yamask out of the battle. You ordered Eevee to use Bite again, and as predicted, the Yamask fainted.
"That's enough Eevee, come back," you sighed, knowing your Eevee couldn't go on much longer with the disability status condition.
Without a word, Allister sent out his Mimikyu, while you sent out Thievul. It had a lot of dark moves that would be useful in this battle. If you played your cards right, you could use Thievul for the rest of the battle.
You took the first attack. "Use Snarl!"
As dark energy blasted Mimikyu, you realized it took no damage. However, its costume went limp. You damaged its costume. The Mimikyu's eyes flared with anger and it started squeaking and throwing a fit. You laughed nervously and Allister looked defeated. It did not appreciate its costume getting damaged for probably the hundredth time in the last week.
Mimikyu got its revenge by using a ferocious Slash on Thievul. However, it didn't do much damage.
You ordered Thievul to use the move Snarl again, which took a lot of damage on the Mimikyu. Mimikyu used Slash again. Thievul used one more Snarl and the Mimikyu was out of the battle.
As Allister decided what Pokemon to use next, you grabbed a potion out of your bag for Thievul.
"Come here," you called.
Thievul walked forward and sat patiently as you used the Potion to spray her wounds. Once you finished, you stood back up and ushered Thievul to move forward.
Allister sent out Cursola. You recognized this Pokemon...
You shuddered as you realized that this is what the Pokemon Corsola had turned into in Galar. Back in Kalos, you saw Corsola a lot with their lively pink hue and joyful spirits. But the pollution in the oceans had turned the Corsola into a Ghost-type version of themselves. This adaptation prevented Corsola from going extinct in the wild. While there are still normal Corsola in the wild, there are now parts of the world where Cursola dominate.
You hated looking at the Cursola, as it reminded you of all the issues in the world.
"Thievul, use Night Slash," you said.
Thievul's claws glowed a very dark purple and it ran forward towards the Cursola. It raked its claws across the Cursola, leaving it a hair away from fainting.
Cursola used Curse next. You watched in horror as it struck itself with a nail engulfed in magenta light. It fainted, and then the same nail appeared in front of Thievul and took half of its health. Thievul whined in fear.
"Are you okay, Thievul?!" you shouted in dismay.
Thievul gave you a slow nod and straightened itself out, though it was very shaken.
"My very last Pokemon... How lonely... How frightening..." Allister murmured.
Allister sent out Gengar. As powerful of a Pokemon it was, this was an easy fight as Thievul's Dark-type moves trumped Gengar's Ghost-type.
You knew you could Dynamax Thievul. You threw it Dynamax candy and activated your bracelet. You recalled Thievul and set her ball into the bracelet, causing it to expand into Dynamax form. You chucked the ball over your head and its Dynamax form was unleashed.
Allister's eyes seemed to glow from behind his mask. "Gengar... Gigantamax... Swallow everything in darkness."
He repeated the same action as you. Behind him basically stood a giant mouth with eyes. It roared, and you prayed you wouldn't get hit by Dynamax spit.
"Thievul! Let's end this battle!" you shouted, glaring at your opponent. "Use Max Darkness!"
All it took was a giant blast of dark energy, and then the Gengar was out.
Allister groaned and leaned back. "I nearly lost my mask from the shock... That was... wow. I can see your skill for what it is."
"Thanks, I think," you replied, cracking a smile for the first time.
You met at the middle of the gym.
"Crumbs, that was ace," Allister said, a little more confidently than earlier. "Here... a Ghost badge."
You shook hands with him and looked into the stands. Your eyes snapped to the Press Box, locking with a pair of golden eyes. Your smile fell as you held your gaze with a frowning Leon.
