You stormed out of the gym, forgetting about your fourth gym victory. The audacity Leon had, being so rude to you and then showing up for your gym match? What was he even thinking?
You ignored all the people congratulating you and the cameras following you. You were getting a name for yourself. You read the articles; "The Electric Underdog". That's what they're starting to call you. You scowled to yourself. As if they had to keep reminding you that you're second best to the champion's little brother! You were going to show them, though. You were going to show that you're much better than Hop and you were going to rip the title of Champion of Galar from Leon.
You sighed. You hated how you were taking your negative feelings for Leon out on Hop. You knew it was wrong, but it was so easy to channel your anger to anything,
From the corner of your eye, you saw Leon approaching. You immediately started walking faster, looking for the first place to hide. Before you could, Leon put a hand on your shoulder.
"Hey (y/n), good job out there today!" Leon exclaimed.
You whipped around, glaring daggers at him. "What do you want?"
Leon flinched at your sharp tone. "W-Well, there's something I want to tell you."
"What, more lies?" you snapped. "More harsh words to break my hard? More denials of my feelings?"
Leon recoiled. He definitely didn't expect you to be angry. "No, I wanted to-"
"No, you don't get to talk to me right now," you cut off. "I changed my mind. I was right about you before, you don't care about me."
You stomped away, leaving Leon sputtering and shocked. Tears slid down your cheeks and you felt betrayed by yourself for allowing yourself to cry.
As if things couldn't get worse, your phone buzzed and you pulled it out. On it read "Two Week Moratorium on Gym Challenge". Further reading confirmed that the fifth gym leader had an emergency come up in another region, meaning that the challenge had to be postponed. You groaned. You decided you would go back to Postwick with your father for the next couple weeks. You had the Flying Taxi, so you could get there and come back here very quickly.
You frowned and started to make your way to the nearby route to get some fresh air. The Flying Taxi line was busy right now, so you had to wait a bit before you would be able to call for a taxi. You thought about calling Marnie, but then remembered her match was scheduled in twenty minutes. She definitely would drop her match to comfort you, but you didn't want to ask her to do that.
Being by yourself would have to suffice.
Besides, you needed to clear your thoughts and make a game plan for the next couple weeks. You definitely weren't going to stay home for that long.
You sat and leaned on the first tree you could find. You let out a deep breath and closed your eyes. Life had been extremely stressful lately. From the Gym Challenge to Leon's lie to his rejection, life hadn't been kind.
What was new?
Back in Kalos, things weren't great, either. Your mother never bothered to connect with you emotionally and other people your age would harass you. You never understood why they chose to pick on you, but stupid people weren't very rational. You thought Galar would be a nice escape from your less-than-ideal conditions back in Kalos.
You almost didn't notice when an unwelcome visitor came up to you. You were jolted back into reality when the visitor kicked you over.
"What the hell?!" you shouted in anger, staring up at the intruder.
It was none other than Bede. You scowled at him.
"You should pay attention more," Bede snapped. "I can't believe you were so oblivious that I was able to kick you over!"
"Well you shouldn't be kicking anyone over," you retorted.
"I'll do it again," Bede smirked and kicked you in the side.
You let out a yelp and scrambled to your feet. "W-Why don't we have a Pokemon battle?"
"So you can hide behind your partners?" sneered Bede. "I don't think so. There's no harm in an old-fashioned fight, is there?"
You balanced yourself and reached for a Poke-ball. You didn't look to see which Pokemon you grabbed before you sent it out. Toxel grunted as it flew out of the Poke-ball. Bede sent out Duosion. This was a bad situation as Poison is weak against Psychic. But, you knew there was no time to fix your mistake.
Bede didn't hesitate and ordered Duosion to use Psyshock. Instantly, Toxel fainted.
You thought about what Pokemon to send out this time. You chose Thievul as dark Pokemon were very effective against Psychic.
"You're already down one Pokemon, how do you feel?" cackled Bede.
"You have less Pokemon than me, so you shouldn't be laughing," you said, rolling your eyes.
Bede smirked. Clearly, he had something planned. But, you didn't want to know what. Bede recalled Duosion, but strangely, he didn't put it in its Pokeball. He sent out Ponyta.
"Use Fairy Wind!"
Smart move, Fairy was strong against Dark. Thievul shuddered as it was blasted with the pink torrent of wind. Thievul used Snarl and Bede's second Pokemon was knocked out. He still had a smirk on his face.
"You know what? I forfeit," Bede said.
For a second, you didn't know if you heard him correctly. "You... what?"
"I forfeit," Bede repeated. He recalled his fainted Ponyta.
You were stunned. "Well, that's smart, considering I was beating your ass."
You recalled your Thievul. Bede's smirk turned into a grin. He turned to the Duosion.
"Use Psybeam."
Before you could process what was happening, purple energy struck you, sending you to the ground. You gasped as pain seared through your body.
Bede said to repeat this action and another wave of energy slammed you. You tried to get onto your knees to prevent yourself from being smashed into the ground.
"Wh-What's w-wrong with y-you?" you sputtered.
This barely ever happened. Trainers using their Pokemon to attack other trainers.
Bede laughed and ordered Duosion to use Psybeam again. This time, you coughed up blood. Bede didn't seem to care.
You heard a shout of anger and feet storming to you and Bede.
Bede swore under his breath and ran away. You flipped yourself over and coughed up blood. You faintly heard someone calling your name, but you ignored them. The ground felt so soft. You just wanted to sleep forever. You let yourself sink into the ground and your vision went black as strong arms lifted you up.
