Shawn's POV
"Tonight, will be forever remembered as the night we peed on a police car." Cory said. Yes, we were drunk off our asses. "I know, it's pretty unbelievable." I laughed. "You know, Shawn, normally, I can't go when another guys standing right next to me." "What a perfect target, I bet ya that why they put those number on the top of the roofs." I said. "I can't think of any other reason." Cory agreed. "Well, here is to squad car 72, wherever you are." Cory said and tried to drink the rest. I took the bottle from him. "Oh no no no no no no, you're not gonna finish that." I finished it off, "Well, party's over." and threw it in the street. When it broke "Gravity." I shrugged. "Heyyy, I was gonna put flowers in that and present it to Armanga." Cory said. "Wait a minute Cory, you just called her Armanga!" I was dying with laughter. And it only got worse when he said, "No not OUR manga, MY manga." We were laughing when a guy came out of the liquor store. We convinced him to buy us a 6-pack. As soon as we got the 6-pack, we each opened a can of beer.  "You know what I can't get over? When I left the house, I was almost half crocked, and my dad didn't notice a thing." "That's what happened when ya get up there in years, ya know, you start to lose your edge." I said. "Ok wait wait wait, this is a toast. To the best friend in the whole world, on the best night ever." We clinked our cans and took a sip, and as soon as we did, a cop car pulled up. "Oh no, Agent Zippowitz." I said. "Ok, just stand very still, and we won't get in trouble." Cory said and we held our beer behind our backs. "Why does that number look so familiar?" I wondered. Cop Car 72, that's why. Cory's dad brought us home from the station. "Sit down, now." He said and pointed to the table. "So, How does it feel to put one over on your parents?" Mr Matthews asked. "You feel good?" "No." Cory responded. His dad scoffed, "I cannot believe, that my kid stole liquor from my cabinet, like, well like SOMBODY ELSES KID!" He started to raise his voice and directed the last part towards me. "Have they been charged with anything?" Cory's mom asked. "Are they gonna have a record?" "No, the charges were dropped. Because they're JUVENILES, and there was no prior arrest." He explained. "Cory, this isn't you." His mom said. "No of course it isn't! Somebody influenced him, DIDNT SOMEONE?!" He got in my face, blaming me. "Alan?!" Cory's mom sounded shocked. "No, dad, ok? You're completely wrong, I- I did this all on my own." Cory said. "Come on, you're covering up for Shawn, like you always do." His voice got low and mean. "No, I'm not, in fact, I'm the one that got him to drink." I was tired of this, if he wanted to blame me, I would take the blame for Cory, also because of how many times Cory's done it for me. "No no no no no, stop protecting me, Cor." I said. "Yeah, you know how lousy he's been feeling. Well he wanted to feel good, so I showed him how." I said, protecting my best friend. "Shawn, wh-What are you doing?" Cory asked me. "I am sick, and tired, of overlooking the influence you have on my kid." He got in my face again. "Alan, that's enough. Come into the other room, I wanna talk to you." Ms Matthews dragged him away. "That's probably a good idea." He said and walked out. "Listen, Shawn, wha- why are you takin the wrap for me?" Cory asked. "Because your dads right, Cory. All my life, you've had my back, just let me take the heat this time." I said. "But I'm the one who got us into trouble!" He exclaimed. "I'm not in any trouble, you are! People expect this from me, IM the screw up! You're Mr Teenage America. Especially in the eyes of your parents, they've got you on this pedestal, I'm not gonna let you fall off." I reasoned. Then his parents came back in the kitchen. "Ok, this is what we think. First of all, we feel that you two need some time apart. Now, this doesn't mean that the friendship is over." Cory interrupted him. "No! No, dad, forget it, I'm not doing that." He said. "I'm not giving you the choice!" He said sternly. "Cory, you were drinking tonight!" His mom butt in. "I don't care mom! Dad drinks!" He tried to reason, but that made it worse. "I am slightly over 21, and when I do drink, I drink responsibly! And when you are ready to do what I do, Then you can get out of this house, and GET. A. JOB!" Cory's dad screamed. "What if Kimberly's party wasn't within walking distance?! Would you have driven?!" Cory's mom asked. "I wouldn't drink and drive, I'm not a moron." Cory said. "YOU PEED ON A COP CAR!" Cory's mom exclaimed. "How smart is that?" She said with a softer tone, but still firm. "Look, I appreciate the lecture, and thanks for coming to the station to pick me up. But, you're not my parents. And yeah, I'll just stay away from Cory if that's what'll make everything go back to normal." I said and started to walk out. But Cory said something. "Normal? You know, I just broke up with someone that I've spent my entire life with. I don't have a heart anymore. I've lost my life. So, I went up your liquor cabinet, I took a bottle of whiskey, and I made Shawn drink, cause I didn't wanna be alone." Cory explained everything. Ms Matthews looked at Mr Matthews. He sighed. "Shawn-" "forget it." I looked at the floor. "No! I was worried about my kid, and I said some things that i shouldn't have." He said. "It's ok." I replied. "It is not ok, and I apologize." He said and then both Cory's parents left the room. I put my hand on Cory's shoulder. "No more drinkin?" Cory asked. "Yeah, no more drinking." I agreed and left. I really didn't wanna face Cherry this weekend, so I just went back to the apartment and didn't call her all weekend.
