Volume 3 - Chapter 1: Beginning of the Tournament

On a small island called patch Ruby was standing in front of a gravestone. The engraving read 'thus kindly I scatter'.

"Hey, mom... i know, you're kind of with Y/n, but... i feel like this is more personal, you know? He doesn't need to listen to... me talking. It's totally not that he yelled 'Stop kneeling in front of me, you'll give a wrong impression!'. I asked Yang but she said I'll learn when I'm more grown up... Anyways. Sorry I haven't come by in a while. Things have been... well, things have been, pretty busy. Oh, Dad's here, too! He's, uh, you know... Dad. He's still teaching at Signal. But he told me that he's going to be on some mission soon. I think he misses adventuring with you.... I miss you too. Haven't gotten kicked out of Beacon yet! So that's cool. I think being on a team with Yang helps. Keep her in line... That was a joke. She's actually a really great fighter! You can tell she's learned a lot from Dad! Oh, so are Weiss and Blake. Oh! They're my teammates! Together, we form Team RWBY! And yes, before you ask, that does cause a lot of confusion. But hey, I made a bunch of new friends! Like JNPR, or NVRM! They're all really nice people. But... I don't know if you know that... Y/n said you're asleep. A lot. Oh! Yeah, I reunited with Y/n! You know him... I talked about him a lot."

She shifted a bit in her place. "Well, I think Y/n is more part of NVRM. He and Sol, the leader, are kinda on edge though. They're always bickering with each other. But I think they'll be a perfect duo! The other members are kinda... off. Mia is the only girl. She acts, I don't know, empty? It's really weird."

She looked down but quickly got back to the gravestone. "We've also stopped some bad guys, too! I guess it's like they say: "like mother, like daughter"! I still wonder why Ozpin let me into the school early. But uh, I guess he'll tell me one day. But, you know how Ozpin is. It's funny, the more I get to know him, the more he's starting to sound like Uncle Qrow."

There was barking sound. Ruby turned around and looked at her father waiting for her. "Oh! Looks like Dad's back! I gotta go! He's dropping me off at Beacon for the tournament match before he goes on his next mission. Wish me luck!"

She put her hood on turned around, but gave one last look to the gravestone. "It was a good talk."

With that said, Ruby jogs back to her father and Zwei as a group of crows fly into the horizon.

Tai gave a look at his daughter. "So... is Y/n your BF?"

"DAD!?" Ruby's face went completely red as she went to punch her father.

Meanwhile...

Y/n was inside Ozpins office, sitting in the chair waiting for Ozpin to return.

"Apologies for the wait, Mr. L/n." Ozpin came out of the elevator.

"Uhm... yeah sure... did I do something wrong again?"

He sat down in his own chair. "If you didn't do anything wrong then there is no reason to be worried. Did you do something I must know?"

"Oh! No, no, I'm not worried at all. I just pick on Sol a lot. I also make Zeke do some dumb stuff, but I don't regret it."

"I see." He straightened out his back. "I called you here because of the Vytal Tournament."

"I can't compete, right?"

"Correct. The battles will be made up of team battles, then 2v2 and then one-on-one. You cannot compete because of these rules. However, there are some people who want to see what you're capable of." Ozpin said.

"Which people?"

"General Ironwood, some high class hunters... the Blood Moon." He developed a small smug.
