AN: Play the songs mentioned below- they really set the vibe:)

Putting some music on in my kitchen I pull my hair down. As unsanitary as it might seem, I need to think. Which I can't do with fifty pounds of hair on top of my head. That is an exaggeration ok, but just let me live my life.

Washing my hands, I hear Jackson slowly make his way downstairs.

"You know this is funny, my mum kept trying to make me bake with her when she was doing that thing with me. I never went for it though." He's referring to the whole- falling in love with being alive thing.

"Did it help? What she did?"

"It helped a lot, it kinda showed me that there's more to life than just struggling you know?"

"Oh good." I smile at him.

"So, we shall bake and we shall remind you of the good in the world." He says in a very upper-class fancy voice and I laugh openly at his dramatics.

"We have a problem though..." I say, staring around my kitchen.

"Oh God what?"

"I don't know how to bake, I don't know where any of the stuff is and I also don't know if we have any of the stuff."

He facepalms but nevertheless grins at me. His smile was so bright and the way it travelled all the way to his eyes filled me with unexpected warmth.

I honestly don't think I've ever been looked at like this. I've never made someone smile this widely. I've never even seen Jackson smile so widely before, it's always been dark, miserable smiles or half-amused smiles.

"Come on," He says walking around the island so he's over the same side as me. "Let's try and find stuff to make cookies?"

"Ok. So do you know how to make cookies?"

"Well, not really but I am determined. Plus, we can just google for a recipe. "

He turns the music up a little and pulls the sleeves up on his hoodie. "We got this."

Cut to half an hour later and Jackson and I are bickering because he dropped a whole cookie batter portion on the floor. We had been successful. I mean, the kitchen is a state, his face is covered in flour and so are my clothes. But we managed to combine all the ingredients together and find a baking tray.

"I can't believe you wasted a whole cookie."

"Well, it wouldn't be wasted if you just let me put it on the tray anyway."

"Jackson, have you ever heard of hygiene?"

"Have you?" He say looking at my flour-covered body.

I huff in offence, the cheek. "Look in the mirror big guy." I point towards our mirror in our front room. The whole house is pretty open plan. My parents have an office at the back and there's a dining room around the corner. But other than that, you can see a lot of my house the moment you walk in the front doors.

Jackson walks towards the mirror and laughs at his reflection. Grabbing my phone I skip over to the mirror and take a picture of us in the reflection. He rolls his eyes at me, "What?" I moan. I like the pictures.

"Nothing. Come on, the cookies should be in the oven by now but instead, we aren't even in the kitchen." He laughs.

"Ok, ok I'm coming."

Putting the cookie tray into the oven, I am slightly buzzing with excitement. I haven't really cooked before, had no interest in it. Plus, we had an ongoing joke that the females in this house can't cook. Hopefully, they won't turn out like my mum's creations, Jackson did do most of the work anyway.
