Happy Reading x
My conversation with the girls was brief. They were all apologetic and I could tell they wanted to ask questions but I just shrugged in reply to most of the time.
I explained how I was going to go and talk to Jackson, not really wanting them to know that I was probably going to stick with him all day. I didn't want to alarm them about Layton making contact. I just wanted them to be their usual selves today, but they were already acting different because they found out the truth about Layton.
I was exhausted honestly; my mood was just getting worse and worse and I didn't even care to want to improve it. I think it's fair for me to feel miserable.
Walking to where Jackson was stood next with the rest of the boys I tried not to get nervous as I approached them. It wasn't just the four of them, it was also the two new girls and some other football people all stood around talking.
As they talk I try and go unnoticed, leaning against Jackson's side slightly, letting him know i was here and craving his closeness. But as soon as he looked down at me and placed a hand gently on my back, we had the attention of the group.
"Hey Ives." Jayden says warmly, I suppose letting everyone know that it was ok that I was here. That we were ok now.
"Hi." I mumble, unconsciously moving closer to Jackson. Which I'm sure he was pleased at.
"Hey." Grace greeted me and I could immediately tell her warmth was low key fake. But I knew she was trying so I returned her a smile. One that I'm sure looked more like a grimace.
Max turned to Jayden his face reading that he was confused but I really didn't have the energy for this today and so i just started to walk inside. If Jackson followed, then cool. If he didn't then oh well.
"Ives, are you sure you wanna be here. We can literally turn back around and go home." Jackson says catching up with me just before we enter the main doors into school.
Yes, I'm sure. Why won't he just let me be.
"Either stay with me and stop commenting or go somewhere else." My cold tone almost surprises myself, and I can see Jackson slightly taken back by it. He was annoying me. Honestly. And I know that my annoyance was probably not rational that the stress of everything was most likely making me irritable.
But I felt upset, and I might as well express that.
"Ok, I will shut up." Jackson nods and carries on his pace to keep up with me. His slight offence disappearing.
We turn the corner to his mum office and I mumble how I need to sign in with her.
"Yeah, she's expecting you."
"You told her?" I ask.
"I may have mentioned it."
"What did you say?"
"Just that Layton had texted me and that you weren't ok this morning."
"It's not really your place to tell people or even decide whether or not I'm ok." I mumble at him and he smiles at me. Which confuses me. Why won't he take anything I say seriously today?
"Your smile is pissing me off." I say and walk into his mum's office.
Jackson follows me. I don't know why. I'm not being very nice.
"Ivy, dear. How are you feeling?" Mrs Granger says immediately as she sees me. Opening up the little register tab on her screen and signing me in.
