Chapter Twenty

I was going through some old boxes,yawning as it was getting somewhat late.I was going through photos,Kasai laid between my legs.His head rested on my arm while his legs stuck out from the side side of my crossed legs.It was past his bedtime,but he was too scared to sleep.That and he came down with a terrible cold."You won't know who this is,but hes the old guild master.His name was Makarov,"i said.I showed him a picture from when i first joined the guild.He was standing front of Natsu and I,Happy and Carla were above us.

"He's short."

I laughed,"he was very short.He would've loved you,"i said.Kasai nodded,then i flicked through more recent photos from my twenties.I sighed,looking at the photo of Romeo and I when we first became teammates.We were in the middle of a high five,laughing.I ran my hand over the photo,I looked at the photo behind it.It was one Romeo took of us when we moved in,he had me on his shoulders."Do i have a dad?Nashi said everyone has a dad,"said Kasai.I gazed down at my beloved son.I rubbed his head,nodding.I passed him a photo of Romeo and I before he died.

"See him?There's photos in Pa's house of him.His name is Romeo,see how he has a mark like i do?Well he's my mate,just like Natsu and Lucy.He's your dad,doesn't he look just like you and Pa?"

Kasai nodded,watching the photo with curious eyes.Then glanced up at me with wide eyes."Why haven't i met him?"asked Kasai,i gave him a smile.Although,despite smiling i could feel the tears in my eyes welling up,although it was time he knew about Romeo."Does he not love us?"asked Kasai,his voice sad as he watched me cry.I sniffled and shook my head,laughing.I kissed his head and flicked through more photos.

"No!He loves us both very much.Before you were born he got hurt and because he got so hurt he isn't here with us.If he was with us he would be right here!"

Kasai looked down at the photos,"why don't we have photos of him around our house?"asked Kasai.I let out a deep breath,rubbing his chest as he began to have a coughing fit.I waited for him to stop."Well,for a while it made me really sad and i had to take them down.We can put some up,"i offered.Kasai nodded,then i went through more photos.Slowly flicking through them.I flicked past an envelope,i looked at Kasai.I frowned,confused because i didn't know it was there.

"What's this?"

I opened the envelope,it was signed for me.Out from the envelope fell a long silver chain,with the small pendent of a dragon wrapped around a blue gem.How had i never seen it before?Who was it from?I grabbed the piece of paper inside and opened it,it was a letter.I looked down at Kasai who was finally beginning to get some sleep.I made sure to stay quiet.I looked at the writing,i recognised it.

Dear Wendy,

You were tired and fell asleep,but i'm still awake.I'm not sure when you'll ever read this because you might never have to read this.I'm just writing this because if something goes wrong tomorrow i want a cute sentimental letter for you,and our child.I'm saying our child like i don't know the gender,but it is definitely a boy.My instincts tell me that its a boy.Either way,boy or girl i love them.

I also love you.I know i shouldn't be preparing for the worst but i just have a bad feeling about it.Of course i won't tell you that.Although,there's something i'd like to tell you.The day at the ball,during the GMG when the princess wanted to talk...well she had a reason why.She wanted to get as much information off me about the dark guild.Then she offered me money to go after them as an assassin,since i know the most about them.

I said no of course,but yeah.If i didn't make it,i wanted you to have this.It's not very lovey dovey,end of my life,note to my wife kinda stuff from those books you read but at least you have something left of me.I don't wanna leave you with nothing.Hence,the necklace.I bought it a while ago but lost it?I thought you'd like it,it reminded me on Grandeeney.Or,from what you've told me.I've never met her,but as you say she was a wonderful mother.

I bet you will be just like her.A wonderful mother,who will forever cherish our child.You know i'm leaving you behind two things.A necklace and a child.I'm joking,by the way.I shouldn't be joking because its exactly 2:34 in the morning and i'm looking over at you constantly because i don't wanna live without you.I'm very terrified for tonight,just so you know.I love you Wendy,i will forever love you.I hope you don't have to read this,but sometimes things cant be avoided.

I looked at the letter,unable to comprehend it.I looked down,seeing my son falling asleep.I smiled,"alright i think it's time for bed,"i whispered.Kasai snuggled closer to my stomach and i laughed,he wrapped his arms around what he could of my torso."Can i sleep in here?"asked Kasai.I nodded,then while he got himself comfortable under the covers i packed away the photos.I sighed,putting the letter on the desk.I took a deep breathe,walking back over to the bed.I laid down next to Kasai,who cuddled up to my side.I scratched his back as he fell asleep.Although,from the letter i had just read i knew i wasn't falling asleep.

I walked into the guild,Kasai sitting on my hips.He was still coughing very badly,but i couldn't leave him home alone.I sighed,Lucy and Natsu were on a quest and Macao wasn't there yet.Kasai didn't want to be with anyone else either.I walked up to Erza's office,knocking.I heard her voice from inside so i walked in,she looked at me and Kasai."Hello Wendy,what do you need?"asked Erza.I sat down,Kasai laying across my lap.He kept coughing into my stomach.I sighed,trying to ease it by rubbing his back.

"I think Romeo is alive and i know we saw him dead but i found this letter last night and i think from something he said he might be alive."

Erza looked at me oddly.I sighed,"this letter i've been thinking about all night.Romeo said in the letter the night of the ball the princess spoke to him.She was asking about the dark guild.She offered him a job,"i said.Erza raised an eyebrow,looking at me to continue.I waited until Kasai's coughing fit passed.Then i looked back to Erza,her eyes were full of curiousity.

"She offered him a job to assassinate people,people from the dark guild.I think he took the job and had to fake his death,it would explain the random bodies with the dark guild marks wouldn't it?"

Erza sighed,shrugging her shoulders.She fixed some papers in front of her and put them in a drawer."Why would he fake his death?We saw his body,"asked Erza,I sighed.I pulled my shirt across my chest,revealing my mating mark to her.It was still the same sky blue."This should've turned black when he died,"i said.Erza sighed,shrugging her shoulders."It does make sense but i'm sorry Wendy,"said Erza.

"I know you miss him,we all do but...i saw his body myself.There was no way he was alive."
