Chapter Seventeen

Exactly four months after Romeo had passed away,I went into labour.I was sitting at the guild because my water had broken that morning and of course the guild wanted me to be there.Erza had managed to pull some strings,finding a bed for me in the nearby hospital.She called it finding but really she demanded it.I had been sitting through the contractions for an hour,waiting to be dilated.

I wanted Lucy and Natsu to be there with me.Macao would suffer a heart attack under the stress and Carla had come down with a nasty virus and they didn't want to risk a newborn being sick.I sighed as i was hooked into another machine,the nurse smiled at me."You're dilated at around seven centimetres,you'll get to pushing soon.You body is very natural at doing this,"said the nurse.I smiled and nodded.Right now I was alone.The nurse hooked a heart rate monitor to my stomach.

"The father,will he be here?"

I shook my head,"no.I do want someone to be here though,"I said.The nurse gave me a thumbs up.Then the door opened to the guilds infirmary.Natsu walked in with Lucy,"hey how are you doing?"asked Lucy.I shrugged,I was in pain and the medication she had given me wasn't doing much.Natsu sat down in a chair next to me,understanding it was clearly going to be a long day.

Natsu was right,it was a long day.Over another two hours I had dilated one and a half more centimetres and the once 'cramps' were now turning to contractions.The nurse smiled at me,"okay...looks like you need to start pushing.You'll get breaks between contractions,"said the nurse.I nodded,i looked at Lucy.She smiled at me,"it'll hurt and you're gonna be tired but you got this!"encouraged Lucy.I nodded,laughing.Natsu held my hand tightly,I felt the strong urge of pushing.That's what i did,but the pain was overwhelming and i had never been so overwhelmed in my life.

"Okay,that was great.Have a rest but when you feel that next contraction push again."

I nodded,too nervous or scared to speak.Natsu passed me some water which i could slowly sip on,then i felt the pain slowly start coming on.I held my breath each time i pushed,the breathing made it harder and distracted me.It was a cycle,over and over.Pushing and then resting,i wasn't sure how long i'd been doing it for,but i knew it was longer then an hour.I was tired,crying and sweating.I was absolutely exhausted.I felt the pain subside,"i can't do it...i'm so tired,"i cried.Natsu looked up at Lucy,then back down to me.He shook his head,rubbing my arm.

"You can do it.You're so close to meeting them.Just a few more then you can rest."

I shook my head,"you have too.Do it for Romeo,"whispered Natsu.I looked at him with wide eyes,hearing his name always brought back a flood of memories.I nodded,then as the next contraction hit i pushed harder."One more really big push,"said the nurse.Natsu looked at me,i felt a hand on my shoulder.Like the nurse had said,i pushed one last time.I blacked out partially,then i heard a cry."It's a boy!"cheered the nurse,i looked up.Then,she gently washed him and wrapped him in a blanket.I closed my eyes and rested while she cleaned him up.I heard Lucy and Natsu congratulating me but i was too tired.

"He weighs six point three pounds and he's seventeen inches."

I felt the small weight be placed down on my chest.I opened my eyes,on top of his head he had soft,wet purple hair.It wasn't much,but it there was still a small fluff on his head.He wasn't crying anymore,he stretched out his arms."You're lucky!No stitches for you!"said the nurse,i wasn't listening.Instead i was looking at him,he was on my chest and very peaceful now.The nurse smiled,"do you want visitors?"asked the nurse.I smiled and looked at Natsu and Lucy."Can you bring Macao in?"i asked,they nodded and left.The nurse left with them.I could hear the guild going wild in the waiting room.Then i saw the door open,Macao poked his head in.

"I heard it was a boy..."

I nodded,biting my lip to stop myself from crying.Macao closed the door behind him,then he walked over slowly."You can be the first to hold him,"i offered.Macao had a tear slide down his cheek and very gently he picked him up.I smiled,for the first time since Romeo had passed away i felt happy."He looks just like Romeo,"said Macao,he laughed.I cried more,feeling my heart ache for my partner.I sat up a little,admiring the bundle in Macao's arms.

"He would be so proud of you..."

I nodded,"i know,"i replied.Macao leaned down and kissed my forehead,i smiled.After his death,Macao was the only one who could truly comfort me.He was a father to me."What's his name?"asked Macao,he walked around the room.Gently rocking him as he did so.I smiled,then he looked up at me."Romeo said if it was a boy,he'd like Kasai.What do you think?"i asked,Macao looked down at the small body.Macao nodded,"Kasai Marvell..."whispered Macao.

"Kasai Conbolt.I want him to take your last name."

Macao looked up,"thank you,"said Macao.I gave him a smile,then he returned to me.Macao placed him in my arms,then rubbed my shoulder."Do you want time alone?"asked Macao,i shook my head."Open the door,they can come in.Although,not too loud,"i replied.Macao nodded and opened the door,and like i asked they all silently walked in.Lucy smiled,holding a camera.I laughed,and she took a photo.Then,people in the guild slowly said their hellos.I smiled and leaned back.

I was utterly exhausted and all i wanted was my partner,but i knew that wasn't happening.I smiled,admiring my family around me.They managed to stay until closing hours were over,then they were ushered out of the room.I said goodbye to Macao last and now i was alone.I looked at the baby in front of me,who was feeding -which was an uncomfortable feeling.Then,a nurse came in.She smiled,"what a champion!He's feeding very well,"said the nurse.I smiled,then she walked over.

"Alright when he's done we can get him some proper clothes on!I see your guild left many gifts."

I laughed,"they're like family,"i replied."Now the father isn't here is he?"asked the nurse,i shook my head and she nodded.She put her arm on my shoulder,giving me a reassuring smile."I heard the story a few months ago,you're doing really well,"said the nurse.I nodded,thanking her.She gave me a smile,then put her hands together."Now we need to do a blood test and a hearing test,so lets sit him up,"said the nurse.I nodded and placed him on my lap,my torso supporting him.

She clicked beside his ear,he turned in the direction.Then in the other ear,she wrote something down."Now you have to hold him still for this,it doesn't hurt him but the feeling surprised them,"said the nurse.I nodded and held him still,then the nurse pushed the needle into his arm.He let out a scream,then she drew a small amount of blood.She finished up,then i got him dressed into some clothes Macao bought.I smiled,then a nurse came in and took him away.I leaned back against the pillow,absolutely exhausted.As i fell asleep,I saw his face.He was proud of me.
