Chapter 12

I sit Luke's car and a million questions are going through my head. I don't know where we are going but I hope he isn't kidnapping me. Luke says nothing and has his eyes on the road. His expression is neutral. Why couldn't he just tell me it at home? We enter the highway and I finally have the courage to ask him a question. "Luke where are we going?" Luke doesn't respond and keeps staring at the road. "Luke?" My voice is trembling. I am so nervous. Maybe he is going to kill me. Oh my god. Why? "We are almost there," Luke says. I am relieved that he says something but what is he going to do? We drive off the highway and enter a sort of park with a lot of cabins. We stop by the last one I can see and I step out of the car. The landscape is beautiful. The cabin is next to a lake and the lake is surrounded by the woods. He walks to the door and opens it. Wait the cabin is his? I follow him into the cabin and take place on the couch next to a fireplace. It is warm inside the cabin because of the summer but I can't help and picture Luke and me sitting here in the winter with the fireplace on. "Why are you smiling," Luke asks me and sits across of me in an old chair. "Nothing important. Are you going to tell me or not?" Luke is avoiding my eyes and looks at his hands. "Uhm yeah, I guess I don't have an option anymore." What did he mean with that? "You know already a lot for a newbie in this world but I'm going to give you my story." I nod and cross my legs in front of me.

"It all started in 1912, I was a normal boy living in the United States. At the time I was 18 and working for my mom and dad because they were poor. I earned enough money so my mom, my dad, Niall and I could eat every day. Niall and I were Born on 24 May 1894 in Maryville. My mom was sick and always wanted the best for me and Niall. One day Niall got a school project about vampires. He was very into history and that sort of stuff. Niall was the smart kid. Every week the money that we didn't spend we put in a bottle for Niall so he could go to college." I listen to Luke his story and see him getting uncomfortable from talking about his past. "At that time Niall was away very often doing research. What my mom and dad didn't know was that he was meeting people who supposedly were vampires. I did know because we told each other everything. One day Niall came home late. He was acting very suspicious. He wouldn't leave the bed in the morning and left when the sun was down. He wouldn't tell me anything anymore. My mom and dad were sad because they thought they lost their son to research. My mom's health was going worse and worse. Niall didn't come home for a week and my mom began to worry that she wouldn't see Niall for the last time before her death. On the day Niall came home he was walking in the sun and stuff so my parents thought he gave up his project. One day after Niall came home my mom died and it was a huge impact on us. Niall started opening up again. He saw me not handling the pain of my mother's loss. My dad was working a lot more because I couldn't work anymore. Niall told me everything about his research and his trips. The day after that he took me to this lake. He told me that he couldn't lose me. When I hugged him he threw me into the lake and pushed me under the water so I drowned. My own brother drowned me. The last vision as a human I have is him with tears in his eyes. I don't know how many days I was dead but I woke up on the couch you are sitting right now. I felt different, I was hungry. Niall was standing in the kitchen with a girl. He sends the girl to me and she had a wound in her arm. The blood was getting my attention. That is when I turned. I didn't kill the girl I just had a sip. When I completely turned into a vampire Luke gave me this ring. It was a symbol that we were always together." The ring that can keep them walking into the sunlight. Some of my questions are getting answered. I didn't think Niall would drown his own brother. "You listening?" I look up and nod. "In the night we went out of the cabin and went to a witch in Maryville. She gave us something so we could walk in the sunlight. I know you think it is the ring but it isn't. It is a tattoo. I have it on my back. Niall has it on his arm. Every vampire who walks into the sunlight has a tattoo of and sun on their body. It could be small or very big."

My thoughts are everywhere. The ring isn't the thing. But who do I have to trust? Should I tell them? Ethan and Jenny are probably going to kill him. "Luke, I'm so sorry for you. But before I can make any decisions you have to answer my questions truthfully." My voice is steady. I'm not afraid anymore because if he wanted to hurt me he would have done it before. "Okay." Luke looks right into my eyes for the first time this day. "Have you killed people?" "Yes I have but I couldn't do that in any other way. Blood is my food." I guess he is right. "Are you going to kill me?" "Oh god, no Maddie. I have never loved someone before. The day I met you I knew I was going to love you for a long time." "But you are always going to be a vampire and I am human." "Don't think about that." "Okay. Next question. Why are Ethan and Jenny mad at you?" "They think Ethan and I are behind the animal attacks. They don't know me and Niall are vampires but we are not the people behind them." "Then who are?" "I don't know yet but there is another vampire in Maryville." Is two vampires not enough. "Are you still drinking form humans?" "Sometimes. Niall and I mostly live off blood bags but if we don't have another choice we drink from people. We don't kill them." "Are they doing that willingly?" "Some people do but when they don't we use compulsion, some sort of mind control. After the feed we let them forget everything." "So you don't hurt people anymore?" "I don't think so. There are some risks about being a vampire but I can live with them." "What risks?" "Maddie enough questions for today. Let's make this day a good day." Luke walks towards me and lifts me up from the couch. He is really strong. He walks upstairs and lays me down onto and bed. Is this the moment? Luke has told me everything I needed to know so he doesn't have to hide anymore. His hands are on my hips and mine are hanging loosely around his neck. His hand traveling up and reach for my crop top. I wrap my legs abound his waist and kiss him. He pulls my crop top over my head and throws it aside. I reach for the hem of his shirt and pull it over his head. He kisses me deeply and I strangle my fingers in his hair. One of my hands on his back and his hands on my upper body. I love the way he is making me feel right now. He told me everything about him. I love him. He is special and I can never see a bad person in him. I know I should because he is a vampire and his food source are humans. Actually, blood and he takes blood bags so he doesn't have to kill innocent people. He is special and perfect for me. He is making me feel so good right now. I never would have guessed it was going to be like this. Gosh, he is so perfect. I love him. He loves me and he said it. His voice whispering in my ear. "Maddie I love you. Your perfect." It makes my heart melt.
