"Code blue! Code blue!" I shouted when the cardiac monitor suddenly appeared to be irregular and with no organized electrical activity.

I flattened the bed first and started pumping my patient's chest who just fell unconscious a few seconds ago. I started giving compressions after confirming that he has no pulse.

I was having my hospital duty today in the Intensive Care Unit and the patient I was taking care of has just undergone Coronary Artery Bypass Graft surgery yesterday.

The code team rushed inside the room. I stopped compressing for a second so we could turn the patient on his side and place the cardiac board.

"Ms. Hernandez, run the code." Sabi ng clinical instructor ko.

I have never run a code before but I know the algorithm by heart. So I knew I could do it without being coached.

"Yes, sir."

Since I was the one running the code, I assigned my group mates to do different tasks. Gia hooked the patient on an ambu-bag connected to the Oxygen tank and Lianne started giving quality compressions.

"The patient is having a ventricular fibrillation." I announced, reading the cardiac monitor. "Lesther, charge to 200 Joules."

"Charging." Sagot niya. We heard the sound of the defibrillator being charged and was now ready. "Everybody, clear!" She placed the biphasic paddles on the patient's chest and delivered the shock. "Shock delivered." She announced at umalis ulit.

Gia continued pumping the ambu-bag and Lianne continued with her chest compressions.

"I'll check the rhythm."

"No pulse. Continue compressions.

"Administer Epinephrine every three minutes."

"Charge to 250 Joules." Utos ko ulit.

"Ready. Clear!" Sabi niya at umalis ulit kami sa pasyente. "Shock delivered."

"Continue compressions and administer 300mg of Amiodarone." I said.

The code went on for another fifteen minutes before the patient had a return of spontaneous circulation.

"Your team did great, Ms. Hernandez. You did so well staying calm." Sabi ni Dr. Salazar.

"Thank you, sir."

"Good job."

They all left the room aside from Gia who was sitting next to me beside the bed.

"Pasikat." Bulong ni Lianne bago lumabas ng room.

"Inggitera.

I bit my lip to hide my grin.
