Flight MG-027: Safe Haven

"The motion was granted." Atty. Guevara grabbed the papers and showed it to me.

Napasandal naman si Lexi sa upuan, minamasahe ang sentido niya. "This is stressing me out and he's also out on bail."

"How did it happen so fast?" I asked.

She clasped her hands in front of her, trying to remain calm. "Hindi ko rin alam dumating na lang sa office ko ang papers at sabi dito granted na ang motion for new trial. Tapos kahapon lang he's already out on bail."

"He's moving so fast." I said as I held the bridge of my nose.

"We have to monitor Mia. I'm sure he's going after her."

"Of course. What kind of evidence did they present?"

"According to my sources, it was a video proving that what they did was consensual." Atty. Guevara answered.

"What the fuck? It wasn't consensual at all!"

"I know. Kaya hindi rin namin alam kung paano na-approve ang motion."

I sighed. "Does she know about this already?"

"We told her yesterday but after that she's been ignoring my calls kaya hindi ko na rin alam kung paano ko ba siya bibigyan ng update. Sobrang busy pa ng schedule niya kaya I can't make an appointment." Lexi said, playing with the pen on the table as she stare ahead.

"Don't worry, I'll talk to Mia and make sure she's safe. Magpapadala na rin ako ng bodyguards to protect her."

"We should plan our next move para makapaghanda tayo." Atty. Guevara started reviewing the appeal.

Lexi glanced at me. "Paano si Gabby, Max? She just came back."

I rested my head on both of my palms in defeat. "I know, Lex. I know."

"The prosecution will take care of this case, don't worry. We'll do everything we can." Atty. Guevara promised.

I nodded. "Thank you."

I decided to meet Mia for dinner after talking to Atty. Guevara, the prosecutor who's handling Mia's case and Lexi.

Lexi and Mia did not really get along together because of their clashing behaviors but she's been helping Mia with her case. Lexi has been a sexual assault lawyer since she topped the bar exam and when I told her about what happened to Mia, she immediately contacted her and convinced her to file a case against the motherfucker.

Ayaw pa ni Mia noong una na magsampa ng kaso because she was scared. But Lexi and I made sure she's safe that's why after encouraging her, pumayag na rin siya. It was a tough battle at inabot ang hearing ng halos isang taon bago lumabas ang verdict.

But that was three years ago.

Nag-drive ako papuntang restaurant para makausap si Mia. We decided to have a dinner together to catch up.

"Hey, kanina ka pa ba? Sorry." Sabi ko nang makita kong nasa table na si Mia at naghihintay.

"Hi, Max! Kakarating ko lang din, you're on time, napaaga lang ako ng konti." She said as she greeted me, kissing my cheeks.

I smiled awkwardly at her and sat down on my seat before we ordered.

"How are you doing?" I asked.

She gave me a shrug and answered. "I really don't know how to answer that. Pero okay na ako ngayon, maraming brands ang kumukuha sa'kin to endorse them so it's cool for me."

I smiled. "Lagi ko nga nakikita mukha mo sa billboards, e."

"Maliit na bagay." She grinned.

"About the case..."
