Flight MG-033: Not Anymore

"Hey, Mia?" I greeted when Mia answered my call.

[Hello, Max.] She replied awkwardly.

"How are you?"

[I'm fine. Bakit ka napatawag?]

"I just wanted to ask if you're okay and kung ginugulo ka pa ba niya?" I asked directly.

[Okay lang naman ako. I think he's being careful now kaya he's been silent since I last saw him sa hospital.]

"Well, that's good to hear. Basta 'wag kang aalis sa paningin ng bodyguards mo, you need them. And be vigilant always, Mia."

[I know, I know. My mom wouldn't even let me go sa mga shoots ko because she's scared for my safety.]

"She cares about you, Mia."

[Yeah. She does. Um, Max?]

"Yes?"

[I know I already said sorry about what happened last time, but I just want to apologize again.]

"I forgave you already. We're goods na, don't worry about it."

[Okay. Can I ask how is she doing? Gabby, I mean. I heard about what happened in Mile High from Corbyn. How is she?] She asked, concern lacing in her voice.

Ang daldal talaga ng lalaki na 'yon.

"She's doing great now. She's actually handling the situation very well."

[That's good. Um, I know naman na alam mo na I envy her because of the attention na binibigay mo sa kaniya and we're not really in good terms, but I can't help thinking about how she's handling this. I mean we share the same... experience and... I still can't let go of this fear...] Her voice hitched.

"Are you okay?"

[I'm fine... I'm just in a dark place right now. I think I needed someone who would understand me, you get my drift?]

"Yeah, I think I do. I'll try to talk to her about it, is it okay if I tell her about you?"

[No! 'Wag na, Max. She might not like me, I've been a bitch to her for a short period of time na nakilala ko siya.]

"Doesn't matter. Gabby's a good person. If you need someone to talk to, I'm sure she'll help you."

[Are you sure? What she if rejects me?]

"She's far too soft for her to do that. I'll talk to her and see how it goes, okay?" I said as I got in my car.

[Okay, thanks, Max.]

"Anytime, Mia. Hey, I have to go, I'll call you again soon, okay? Be safe, Mia."

[Bye, Max. Thanks for calling.]

I ended call and went straight to Gabby. Since she's been staying at Gia's old condo in Taft, it always took me more than an hour in traffic just to see her.

I was thinking about telling Gabby about Mia's situation. Mia hasn't been coping well, and she has been using me as a distraction to forget about her past and that was the reason she became attached to me. Mia's like a kid seeking for her parents attention that's why I couldn't get mad at her. That was her defense mechanism.

I knocked on Gabby's door and she welcomed me with a warm smile as she opened it. The smell of freshly baked goodies penetrated my nose.

I wrapped my arms around her waist, kissing her on the cheek.

"Good morning." I grinned.

She swatted my hands and gave me a death stare. "Kailangan may kiss talaga?" Sabi niya habang sinasara ang pinto.
