Irene Bae did command a lot of respect. Just her presence was enough to silence halls of people. So I was justifiably glad that she was my cousin. Me being close to her from our extended family, which did extend quite a bit considering our status, was as strange as her preferring my company. Well, she did not prefer it as much as she didn’t mind me being around as severely as she did with other people.

“Why are you interested in Kim Taehyung all of a sudden”, she asked me very calmly while looking through all of my mother’s clothes my maid had packed and sent to her to be sold.

“He has always interested me. Why are you even surprised?” Actually I really enjoyed talking to her, since I didn't  have to take social precautions I generally had to in the society that we roamed in.

“It had been a while since you mentioned him.”

“It has only been four days since I returned home. I just want to know how everyone I once knew is up to.”

“I can’t sell all of these.” She ignored me. “It would be uncharacteristic for me to sell clothes. I’ll probably auction some to get the largest profit margin and wear some to get some of the style back in fashion. I can probably make some anonymous sales after that. You can probably wear some of them.”

“I hardly go out and what I have is enough.” She was being reasonable but I would rather get rid of everything. I hardly knew my mother and I had better use for money.

“I’ll see what I can do.” She sighed. “The craftsmanship is impeccable as expected from Lady Gray’s collection,” she trailed off looking at the finer details of the clothing scattered on her bedroom floor.

Her bedroom was really peaceful and I liked it here. It was a peaceful haven when my childhood was in a slight uproar and spending the time here had stabilized me in the past. It was a shame I couldn’t visit her more often.

“I know that you are lying about Taehyung,” she suddenly spoke. Her back was towards me but her shoulders fell slightly. She was disappointed I had not told her the truth.

“I also know why you did not tell me,” she looked back at me with a little smile. She was damned smart about everything. “There have been rumours. You should be careful.”

“There have?” Interesting.

“It’s just that the Kims have a very prominent social standing. And Taehyung is very well liked. So the rumors haven’t been rampant. And it has been more than five days.”

She resumed now devoting her attention towards the garment.

I plopped down back on her bed. It seemed that it hadn’t been as secretive as I thought it was. Apparently, people just were more cautious around me, which was understandable.
