Jimin raised his eyebrow, when we arrived. The change in our demeanor must have been apparent.
"This key should lead us to the basement. How far is the king's room from the basement in the left wing?" Jungkook questioned while he started setting up the key.
"Well, multiple stairs. At least we'll be at the left wing," Jimin replied. "Don't get lost and follow me. There must be some alarms as well as guards."
"The guards are more scant at this basement as the kitchen is on the right," I explained. "I have some sleeping potions, but not much." Hoseok didn't trust me with potions anymore. Didn't even let me explain why this was important. I thought I would have to use the whole thing on the king. At least with Jimin here I wouldn't have to worry about that. So, we could probably knock out 3-4 people temporarily.
"So who is going to do the honors?" Jungkook said looking back at the handiwork.
"I'll do it." The downside of being a vampire was you can't do blood magic.
"You can do it?" Jimin questioned.
"I don't know." I said. "Never tried it."
"I'll do it." Jungkook shook his head. "How were you even going to do this without us?"
I shrugged. I have never borrowed life energy from blood. It didn't cross my mind that I wouldn't be able do a simple key until Jimin mentioned it. I had been able to do a memory charm, but Jimin was right. That didn't require blood.
Jungkook bit his thumb, smeared the blood on the paper. The key wasn't intricate. It was a mundane drawing of a queen of hearts on a paper. No flourishes. I wondered how that memory was important to the person who died to create this portal.
"Gray. You have a lot of explaining to do," Jungkook said as he placed the paper on the brick wall. Of course, he noticed.
Sudden sound of stacks of bricks falling resonated in the empty basement.
"Fuck that was loud," I exclaimed. We waited to see if that alarmed the guards. Apparently only the cement was magiced. No one seemed to have noticed.
Jimin and I entered the basement of the palace, while Jungkook carefully entered, removing the key as he entered.
"That was pretty impressive," Jimin said as the bricks stacked themself up to close the gap.
"Of course, it is. Someone literally died for it," Jungkook muttered angrily.
"Kookie, I didn't mean it like that." Jimin apologetically looked at him.
