“You did that on purpose,” Jungkook half yelled as we were making our way downstairs. Really fast.

“ No,” I lied. “But, he is hiding something.”

“ We do not assault our clients for information.”

I stopped walking to take a breath. “I did not do it on purpose,” I lied again, but even louder to make sure he moved on from the topic.

Jungkook looked back, noticing I wasn’t moving. "It’s not possible. It has been a week.” He ran his fingers through his hair in concern.

“It’s not an exact science.” The bare possibility that something might have happened was getting to me. I felt antsy at the prospect.

He nodded at that still visibly concerned about the probability.

“Go on ahead. I forgot my walking cane.” I started walking up. I had left it there to make an excuse for a visit later hoping he would be more willing to talk then. But I needed to know a bit more. Just some other hint.

“Why do you even have a walking cane?,” he yelled.

“To walk,” I yelled back.

I made my way quickly inside, the door was still open. Taehyung should still be in his living room.

“I forgot my walking cane, Greta,” I nodded apologetically at the maid, who was making her way out of the room with the tea set. “I’ll be back in a minute.”

“My name isn’t Greta,” she mumbled annoyed as she took the first door to the right, probably the kitchen.

I opened the door to the living room. Taehyung was still seated and jumped a bit as I entered the room. He looked the other way and hastily did his cravat which he apparently had removed.

“I left my cane,” I said too slowly to be natural. I was trying to look at him . I made my way to the coffee table that the cane was propped up on. This wasn’t making any sense. Jungkook was right. The process wouldn’t take that long. I have never heard of a vampire that hadn’t turned within 2 days. Even 3 was stretching it. It just did not happen.

Breathe. I froze with uncertainty. I clenched my hand on my walking cane for support. I could hear him slowly standing up. Heard the chair being pushed behind as he did that. Heard him walk towards me. “Gray,” he asked slowly, placing a hand on my shoulder.

I turned back. “Idiot.” I could see the purpling of his veins as it crawled from his collar. I could see the faint reddening of skin below it.

He blinked slowly.

“I should go now.” I looked at his eyes. It hadn’t turned yet. “Sorry for the intrusion. I didn’t want to exploit your hospitality by coming here again." I rechecked his eyes. Not red. Definitely not red.

“Thanks, I’ll get going.” I added. Quickly moving out of  the room and downstairs.

I was practically running out of the building when I saw Jungkook pacing on the pavement.

He immediately looked at me. “What took you so long?”

“Nothing. I just walk slow.” And I definitely did not look like I had walked slowly as I desperately caught my breath to talk to him.

“Let’s get going,” he said looking at me doubtfully.

“I don’t think I am feeling well. I should probably head home. I don’t want our staff at the station getting sick with whatever I caught.” I started walking up the road.

He sighed loudly. “Take the carriage. I’ll walk to the station.”

“No, I’ll walk.” I turned back at him.

“It’s a 40 minute walk. The station is much closer.”

“A 40 minute walk is exactly what I need right now.”
