Jungkook left the carriage running. “I’ll meet up with you,” he said as I made my way to sit with Byul.

Byul held a hand for me as I tried to climb onto the driver seat.

“Go straight to the palace after you drop me,” I told her as I took the seat beside her. She whipped the carriage to a start.

“You could have just told him, you know,” she said disapprovingly. I had learned from my past mistake. Just telling Jungkook that there was a likely chance that they were in the garden would definitely mean that he would have followed me here.

“It’s just a guess.”

She shook her head, still concentrating on maneuvering the carriage around the gigantic complex of the royal hall.

“It’s more beneficial this way,” I tried to reason. “He can alert the rest of the force- stop right here.” I got down. “Just go straight to the palace. The left wing, especially the basement. You have the key, right?”

She waved her hand dismissively.

The garden door was rusty from infrequent use. I pried it open with difficulty, but then soon saw that I was right. Jin was protectively standing in front of Taehyung, both of them a considerable distance away from his grandfather. They seemed to be arguing, not even taking a notice as the large garden door scraped on the pavement.

I ran toward them, quickly unpocketing my dagger.

“The prince will be safely-”

All of them looked at me as I ran the expanse of the garden.

"Taehyung isn't the one," I yelled as soon as I was within hearing distance.

"Gray, what are you doing here?" Tae hissed, clearly still mad at me. Was he planning on sacrificing himself without even fucking talking to me? Idiot

I caught my breath standing in front of them.

"Go away," Jin added, agreeing with him.

"He isn't the one. You have got the wrong person." I repeated holding the dagger tightly with both hands.

Lord Kim raised his eyebrow. I finally had the chance to look at him carefully. He was much worse than he had been a few days ago. Aging vampires had to consume a lot more than usual to keep their lives. Time caught up with them fast.

"He didn't survive your venom," I said, only now noticing the other man with a gun behind the pillar. "Jimin sucked it out before it took effect."

He frowned. "I don't have time for this."

"What are you even talking about?" Taehyung hissed behind me. I looked back at him giving him a silencing glare.

"He is not the one," I repeated making sure that I said every word clearly.

He smiled. "Well, there's only one way to find out." He looked back motioning his hand to the man-

I spun around rotating on my axis as I flared my wings. I could hear the deafening hush of the wings opening. Quickly followed the bang gun in the background, quiet compared to the noise the wings were making against that harsh wind. I didn’t want to lose control. Held the dagger close to me pointing towards my chest just in case. The dagger right in front of me. Focus on it. Breathe

And I saw it, the realization hitting Taehyung as he fell backwards with surprise. I could almost feel his memory rushing back into him. Then, the bullet hit my left wing, and scraped my arm narrowly missing Jin, who was still standing. Everything felt slow and detailed as if time got stuck at that moment and struggled to move forwards.

I registered the voice of men running towards the garden, and shouting. Commands. I held my arm to stop the bleeding, hardly feeling any pain. All my senses had numbed down. Finally when I turned back to the building. People. The police. The gun shot must have alerted them.

Somehow my eyes quickly found Jungkook. He saw me. But I somehow didn't care anymore.

"Jin, go to the palace. Get Jimin. Take him with you." I motioned at Taehyung, finally loosening my grip on the dagger.
