Jungkook pointed out that the vampire attacks were occuring far more frequently in central London. Attacks used to happen more in the industrial district were a lot of immigrant labour housed with little to no social support. We tried looking through the records if that added up.

Someone knocked gently on the door.

“Yes?” I asked.

Joon entered balancing a stack of books with a lit candle on top of it, pushing the door with his back to enter.

“Joon, that’s dangerous!” I said quickly standing up to help with the books.

“Thanks. Oh-” He just noticed Jungkook. “I thought you would be alone.”

That was really considerate of him. He did not like moving away from his lab equipment if he could help it. Him coming upstairs just in case I might not have been able to sleep was really nice. I put his books down on the window still, the study table being pretty packed, and blew the candle he brought with him.

“What were you up to?”

“Nothing important,” Jungkook replied curtly.

He had seemed fine a moment ago. “No, no. It’s actually interesting, Joon.” I took a seat and looked up at Joon, who was standing over the table. “Jungkook noticed that most of the cases have been occurring in central London. That might mean it was the same vampire as the one who is behind Tae’s case," I told him pointing at the location of some of the cases that stood out.

“Hmm,” Joon said, bending over to see the records. He looked at Jungkook then back at me. “I’m tired. I’ll be in the next room if you need me.”

“You are leaving?” I thought he would be more interested than this.

“Yeah,” he said as he lit his candle and carried the candle in one hand and his books pinched under his shoulders.

I thought he would stay. Jungkook coughed awkwardly, “Maybe I should go as well.”

I realized I was staring blankly. “No,” I protested. “Please don’t go. Just a bit longer. Let’s see if all of this checks out.” My voice rose a bit as more and more anxiety tickled in. Suddenly, I was really worried about not being able to sleep. I could feel my chest, everything in it. It felt so hollow and heavy at the same time.

“Hey,” Jungkook spoke, concerned. “Are you alright?”

I nodded.

“Should I get Namjoon?” He asked gently, putting his hand on my hands.

I shook my head. I just didn't want anyone to leave anymore. Jungkook crouched on the floor taking both my hands in his, patting them awkwardly unsure of what to do.

Breathe. "I don't do that well with vampires," I explained.

He looked at me incredulously. " And you invited two of them to live with you?"

I shrugged. "Seemed like the right thing to do."

He chuckled at that.

"We had an attack when we were young. I lost my best friend then."

"I'm-"

"No, no!" I shook my head. "He is alive. He just- I realized I was to blame." Jungkook frowned a bit. This was so wrong. He shouldn't be looking so worried about me.

I tilted my head to the side to look at his face better. "It's generally my fault. Considering my family, that attack was most likely my fault."

I am sorry. So sorry.

We worked until we exhausted ourselves. I vaguely remembered Jungkook carrying me to bed.
