The stairway upstairs wasn't lit. It was dark and everything seems to resonate in the enormous hallway.
“You are stalling,” Jungkook said as we tried to follow Jimin through the dark.
I nodded at his back absentmindedly. It was awfully quiet compared to everything that was going through my mind. I rushed forward and latched on to his coat-tail just so that I didn’t get left behind. All this was frustrating without wings. I felt much more vulnerable than I needed to be.
Fortunately, we avoided the patrolling guards when we were on the stairs as two passed us almost as soon we got on the landing. They were much more invested in the palace gossip than intruders and their light briefly lit the hallway.
Jimin let out a breath of relief. “Not much seemed to have changed,” he noted. “There should be two guards in front of Yoongi’s room.”
The bend in the hallway leading to the king’s room was brightly lit, so we needed to act fast. Initially, I was planning on waiting it out until one of them went away for a break, but with three of us that carried two much risk of being discovered.
“Just make sure you are at all times behind Jungkook,” I told him. If we are going to rush and sedate them it would be helpful if they did not recognize the lost prince and raise an alarm. The palace was heavily alarmed with bells and especially this section. I had heard rumors about the king being especially paranoid about assassins. A royal upbringing apparently did that.
Jungkook hushed us as he heard one of the guards moving towards us, probably alerted by our voices.
He motioned that Jimin should take care of this one, while he would get the other one.
We nodded.
As soon as the guard cut the corner, Jimin lounged on him briefly opening the snapping case while Jungkook rushed forward. I caught the guard before he could fall and placed him leaning on the wall.
We hurried to the room as the sound of connected bells slowly grew through the hallway.
“Not him. The king.” Jungkook said putting the now sleeping guard down.
Jimin ran inside the room at that. Slamming the doors to the room loudly. We heard loud yelling erupt from the room as both of us filed inside. “Hurry,” I yelled as we both got in.
“He doesn’t remember me,” Jimin looked back at us as he held the visibly frightened king with both hands. “ A vampire,” he was mumbling.
“No, it’s me. Jimin.” Jimin tried to calm him. I took the remaining of the potion that I had in my pocket.
“Jimin, look away,” I instructed as I snapped the cap open in front of the king. “Jimin? Jimin never came-,” the king mumbled as he fell asleep.
“Jungkook, carry the king,” I said. He rushed from the door, where he was keeping a lookout. Jimin backed away coughing from the intense smell of the potion. I hoped it hadn’t hit him hard.
I helped Jungkook with the king.
“Stop,” a loud voice came.
