Something about Kenny's words made her feel different. She trusted him wholeheartedly and knew in that moment that he'd never hurt her, and she'd never be capable of hurting him either. He kissed her neck than her shoulders making her smile.
"Everyone is probably wondering why you two cancelled the wedding- oh shoot, your mom!" She gasped making him sigh.
"She's probably freaking out right now." Toni shook her head turning to face him.
He ran his hand down his face.
"You're gonna have to talk to them." Toni said and he nodded.
Silence filled the room, he opened his arms indicating that she lay on his chest. She moved towards him and laid her head down on his chest just listening to his heartbeat.
"Are we making a mistake?" She blurted out.
He looked down at her and shrugged.
"No. But if it is, then it's a mistake I'm willing to make." He kissed her forehead rubbing his hand up and down her back.
"Come with me." He blurted out.
She arched her brows and sat up looking down at him.
"To where?"
"To talk to my parents. If I'm going to be telling them about why I cancelled the wedding might as well start by telling the truth right."

Kenny walked into his house immediately being greeted by his parents. Once they noticed him Hill immediately stood up.
"You be-"
"I know, but before you scold me. Toni." He called making her walk in.
"What's this? I already figured you were with Toni because we couldn't find you anywhere else- how could you call off the wedding on the same damn day?" Hill scolded shaking her head.
"Because I wasn't in love with Shanice, I mean I loved her but I wasn't in love with her." Kenny confessed as he and Toni stared at his mother.
She shook her head in disappointment before she sat sown on the sofa trying to process everything.
"Who is she?" Hill asked looking up at him making both Kenny and Toni frown.
"Huh?"
"Who is the other woman?" Hill raised her eyebrows.
Kenny and Toni faced each other before Kenny held his hand out to Toni, she placed her hand into his. Hill and Darian's eyes immediately widened as Kenny pulled Toni closer.
"I know what you're thinking. But nothing happened while I was in a relationship with Shanice." Kenny said. "And if what you two are expecting me to do is explain myself like I'm some teenager then the answer is no. I'm almost 30, I can make my own decisions." Kenny added.
"And I mean that with so much respect." Kenny said. "I love Toni and I wanna build my future with her." He said looking down at Toni who smiled up at him.
Hill and Darian stood up.
"Well this definitely came to me as a surprise. If you two had accepted y'all faith 8 years ago than maybe I wouldn't have been surprised." Hill said before she smiled.
"I always did want you to be my daughter in law." Hill lowly said making Toni chuckle.
prepare to have a lot of time lapses because i have too much stuff to happen in this book and i don't want it to be too long. also i promise to have a chapter for growth up tomorrow i've just been having a little writer's block 😬
