Nilapitan ni Leih si Safhire na mahimbing na natutulog sa hospital bed. Kalalabas lamang ng attending physician at ng dalawang nurse. Banayad na ginagap ng lalaki ang kamay ng dalaga at dinala sa kanyang labi. Masuyong hinagkan.
"Hey, my lady! You'll gonna be alright, I promise." He whispered and gently ran his fingers in her cheeks and down, tracing the contour of her lovely but pale lips. Unable to control himself anymore, he bent forward to kiss her.
But the door opens.
Si Ghaile ang pumasok. Napabuntong-hininga si Leih. Muntik na. Umurong siya palayo sa kama habang papalapit ang kapatid.
"The fever has broken down," pahayag nito matapos salatin ang noo ni Safhire. "I have instructed the attending physician to prepare a referral for her admission in Infirmaria. Lyam will personally attend to her there. Tinawagan ko na siya. He'll be waiting."
Tumango si Leih. Sinulyapan ang dalagang natutulog. "Are you going to inform the chairman about this?"
"I don't know. Even if we won't tell him, he'll figure it out somehow."
" I hope she'll be okay when she wakes up. I hate seeing her like this but I can't bring myself to tell her not to cry." There's helplessness in Leih's voice.
"Just don't leave her alone."
"Ano ba talaga ang problema? Hindi mo pa sinasabi sa akin."
"We still have to conduct further tests. For now, it's just an ordinary fever."
"Hindi ko alam kung anong pwede kong gawin para sa kanya. Para hindi na siya umiyak pa."
"Sa ngayon wala tayong pwedeng gawin kundi ang samahan siya. Lilipas din ang lahat. By the way, ikaw na ang magdala ng referral. Sinabihan ko na ang attending physician na sa iyo ibigay."
"Ako na ang bahala." Muling lumapit si Leih sa kama.
Saglit na pinagmasdan ni Ghaile ang kapatid. It is unusual for Leih to care so much for a woman. He hated girls and tends to put some distance from them. But not with Safhire.
"Why don't you make a sketch of her while she was sleeping?" sabi niya rito.
"I've done that already but it's no good. I want to see the emotion in her eyes."
"Are you interested in her? In a different way of course other than being a model in your painting. Do you like her?"
Hindi ito makasagot at nagmistulang teenager na pinamumulahan ng pisngi dahil nasukol kung sinong crush.
"It's not bad if you admit it. Anyway, it's very obvious." Tinapik niya ito sa balikat.
Tumingin ito sa kanya. Nabasa niya sa mga mata nito ang pagkalito. Maliban kay Shannon, si Safhire ang kauna-unahang babaeng bumihag sa atensiyon nito. Hindi nakapagtatakang hirap itong maunawaan kung ano ang kasalukuyang nararamdaman para sa dalaga.
Binawi nito ang paningin at muling ibinaling kay Safhire. "She is Ray's fiancee and the chairman's woman. I shouldn't fall for her that's what I thought, at least."
