Chapter 50

"Shotaro, Maddie, Sungchan" Jaehyun called as the three of them met once again, usually they'd be training together but not today. Yuta and Jaehyun had arrived back from Japan with Shotaro a while ago now, and unfortunately as soon as Jaehyun arrived back on Korean soil training had become a lot more intense. It was immediately obvious - though slightly annoying for Maddie that Shotaro would need a fraction of the training time she'd required, he already knew everything about guns and fighting and even how the criminal world worked which was all brand new for Maddie when she'd entered the country as a foreigner.

The three of them were set to all be initiated at the same time, Sungchan with a significantly longer training period than Maddie who'd only had a month or so and Shotaro who'd had mere weeks. It would be natural to assume this would cause some tension between the three of them as they had to battle and compete for points constantly, but that was far from the truth, they all got on like a house on fire and it was clear that Shotaro and Sungchan would become inseparable.

They all stood nervously waiting for things to begin, they had multiple 'mock' assessments to prepare for this moment but this was it, it was her final assessment, the last hurdle before she was sworn in for life. She'd passed the practice assessments with flying colours, and throughout the week the dreamies gave her and the other two newbies tips on how to get through the final assessment. And of course Jaehyun had been polishing all of all of their subtle flaws to make her fully prepared for the test.

Although the three of them were all striving for the same goal, the ways to get there were drastically different, each having a different kind of testing to face. Maddie would face one combat fight against one of the red velvet members, then one of the NCT members to see if she was capable to fight what ever may come her way. Then she would have the shooting segment where they would test her knowledge of the weapons and her ability to shoot from a distance, up close, moving, stationary, mid combat, in every possible situation. She would then have to treat a mystery wound, a category few other members had to partake in but because they wanted her to take over the role of medic so Taeil could take over the role of driver, she would have quite vigorous testing in her abilities.

Jaehyun reassured them all that they weren't expected to be perfect yet as most of their really important lessons and teachings would come when she was actually working in the field. She would learn how to be resourceful and how to operate properly on the job, it wasn't the kind of thing that could be taught in a simulated environment.

Hours and hours of insufferable testing later she was in the female changing rooms in the SM building waiting for her results, she'd been judged by different members for certain specialities but Jaehyun and Taeyong were the ones who would decide over all if she was worthy of becoming the the next member of NCT.

She took a shower to get rid of the grime on her skin from the hours of hard work. She let the water attack her back as she contemplated whether she'd done enough to get in, and if she hadn't what would that mean for her? After washing she put on a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt putting her jewellery back on. She put on a touch of makeup because of she was going to be rejected she would at least look presentable.

She headed out into the corridors that had become familiar to her over the past few weeks, rolling her shoulders to relieve the tension that was building at the base of her neck. She walked to the elevator to go up one level to the NCT floor where her results would await her. She pressed the appropriate number the metal doors slid closed. It took only seconds for her to arrive, not giving her time to prepare herself, but also not giving her time to procrastinate.
