It's New Year's Eve. Nandito kaming tatlo sa terrace nina Ida, Feliz, at Joy. They set up a table here where they put foods, fruits, and wine. We will going to celebrate New Year here.
"Sabi nila, Ma'am kapag tumalon ka sa New Year ay tataas ka daw." Joy glanced at me. "So Ma'am para tumaas kapa talon ka mamaya!" Sabi niya at tsaka nag torotot.
"I never believe in such myth." I told her. Anong connect ng New Year sa pagtaas mo? " Just read Science, it could answer you question, of why you didn't grew a bit." I added.
"Grabe ka ha! Ang harsh!" She laughed while holding her chest. I don't even know why they all wearing polka dots? I'm just wearing a green T-shirt and maong shorts.
"Ano naman yan bakit naka polka dots kayo?" I asked them. Naka polka dots sila na dreess.
"Swertehen daw tayo, Ma'am!" Napailing na lang ako. Ang daming myth when it's New Year. Sa fruits, sa mga kulay ng damit, coins, bigas, and whatever. I don't know the significance of it. For what? Prosperous New Year is equivalent to a prosperous year? I don't think so.
Kasi para sa akin, ang bagong taon ay palatandaan ng tumatanda ka na. It means your life here on earth is getting shorter and shorter. It means you should spend your remaining years with the one you love. It means if you failed to show love to your loved ones last year, you have another chance for incoming year to show it to them.
It's like another hope and wish to be fulfilled. Another chance to make, and another risk to take.
"Kaya Ma'am mamaya mag wish na lang tayo!" Tumango na lang ako sa sinabi ni Joy. Naupo kami at nagsimulang kumain.
We were eating when my phone rang. I excused myself.
"Go lang! Si Andrew ata yan! Kayo na ba?" Nakangiting tanong ni Feliz.
Malungkot akong ngumiti. "Not yet." Hindi ko alam kung sasagutin ko pa siya, or e reject na lang? Natatakot ako. Parang best friend ko na siya.
Lumabas ako at pumasok sa kwarto ko. "Hello."
[Baby girl! Advance Happy New Year! ] Natawa ako.
"Wala pa nga, excited ka."
[Iinom kasi kami ng kaibigan ko dito. Baka lasing na ako mamaya kaya greet na ako ngayon.]
"Iinom ka?"
[Pwede ba? ] He chuckled.
"Go lang. May wine kami dito kaya iinom din ako."
[Minor ka pa! Bawal! ]
"Excuse me? Wine lang naman at anong akala mo sa akin? Magpapalasing?"
[Oo na! Basta konti lang?]
"Kung sabihin ko rin sayo na konti lang inumin mo? " Sarcastic kong sagot.
[So dadamihan mo ang inom?]
"Hindi."
[Ede! Hindi ka malalasing ayos yan! --Pre halika kana dito! ] May sumigaw sa background niya kaya hindi ko narinig ang huling sentence.
"Okay. Tawag ka na ata."
[Bye! Happy New Year! More New Year's with you! ]
"Yeah more New Year's with you, I guess."
[I love you.. ] He whispered. My heart ached.
He ended the call. Bumalik ako sa teresa na malungkot.
Umiinom na nang wine si Joy na kumakanta ng kanta ni Stevie Wonder.
"No New Year's Day! To celebrate!" Si Joy. Natawa si Feliz.
