(A little angst so be prepared 😱)

The longer Wei Wuxian spent in Mo Xuanyu's body, the more frustrated he was at the little amount of spiritual power it possessed. Although his old body had little spiritual power too, due to him giving his golden core to Jiang Cheng, it was still plenty more than now.

He felt it most when he used his powers either through his cultivation or tiresome tasks. He hated doing things that took a long amount of time and ended up having to rest many times. If he was affected on a mission, Lan Zhan would always comfort him but it didn't make it any easier.

One day, when they woke up in their room in Cloud Recesses, he stood up from a restless nights sleep and immediately collapsed back onto the bed in exhaustion. It hit him in a tsunami sized wave and caused the whole room to spin. His core felt empty and he struggled to breathe. He groaned and clutched at his head, steadying his breathing until everything righted itself.

With a frustrated sigh he forced himself off of the bed and got dressed for the day. He knew why he was tired but refused to accept it: he and Lan Zhan had spent the weekend in a small town in the hills, alongside the Lan juniors, helping with a demonic issue. A group of corpses had been raiding the town and killing villagers causing more resentful corpses to be made. Even with the juniors and Lan Zhan fighting, the resentment was too strong, and it was up to Wei Ying to save the town. He used a lot of his powers to detain the corpses and had to play Chenqing for almost an entire day, with Lan Zhan standing guard, before he could gain control over them.

When he had finished he sent the corpses away, not before diminishing the resentful energy in the village (and ended up with some of the energy trapped in him); he had felt incredibly tired and spent the entire journey back sitting on Lil' Apple. Lan Sizhui had asked him a few times if he was alright but he just smirked and laughed saying it takes a lot to bring him down. But he could see from the corner of his eye Lan Zhan giving him a concerned look.

When they had returned to Cloud Recesses he went straight to bed without a second glance at the alcohol he had left on the table.

When he had gotten dressed, feeling slightly more awake, he decided to have a little quiet time and go for a walk in the back mountains. The forest was quite except for the tweeting of birds and the rush of the waterfall in the distance. The calm air gave him renewed energy and reduced the storm he was feeling in his chest from the energy he absorbed yesterday. He knew it would go away in a few days yet each time it never became any lesser of a burden.

As the grand, cold lake came into view between a clearing in the trees, a smile grew on his face and he sat down on a large boulder by the water. A grin flashed across his face as he realised he and Lan Zhan had a mini fight here when they were younger...

He spent hours staring at his reflection and sometimes believed if he looked hard enough he could see his old self. Mo Xuanyu had similar length hair to him and also tied it up like he did when he was younger. His new body was toned but not as much as his old body and he was a little smaller. This had positives and negatives: positives being he could tuck himself nicely into Lan Zhan's chest but negatives is he was no longer the same height as Lan Zhan, meaning he had to look up to see his face.

He didn't know what time it was when he heard careful footsteps approach from behind him; he didn't even turn around to know who it was. He could tell from a mile away.

"Lan Zhan... you found me." he spoke quietly as he feared loud noises would cause him pain.

"Hm." said Lan Zhan, sitting down beside him, his clothes resting gracefully around him. He added: "You weren't hiding well."

"I wasn't trying." he said honestly.

The two sat in a comfortable silence. No words were needed, only each other's presence. Wei Ying moved closer to Lan Zhan and lay his head on his shoulder; Lan Zhan immediately wrapped his arm around the younger in comfort. Their hands met between them. The sun began its slow descent and the sky became a beautiful deep blue.

'I live for these moments.' he thought to himself.

He began to grow tired, either from the restless sleep or from doing nothing all day, and when the sun completely set they both began to get up. Lan Zhan was as graceful as ever: his clothes, hair and forehead ribbon flowing regally in the wind. Wei Ying looked at him for a moment with eyes full of love before stretching his arms and getting up himself.

As soon as he stood up, too many things happened at once. His chest tightened and his airways became blocked. He took in quick and raspy breaths which seared in his chest. His ribs ached and felt broken causing him to hunch over slightly. A terrible pounding exploded in his head and he pressed against his temples to try and dull the sound. It was like tiny little explosions in his head. The world span in front of him and he lost all balance.

A second after he stood up he lost consciousness and fell sideways. Lan Zhan turned around just in time to see Wei Ying collide and sink into the water. His eyes widened and with no hesitation dove in right after him. Luckily, the water was crisp and clear so he could see Wei Ying a few meters away, small bubbles leaving his mouth. He grabbed onto Wei Ying's waist and swam up, breaking the surface with a gasp.

Using his energy, he made himself dry whilst dragging Wei Ying up and onto the rock where they were sitting a few moments ago. He knew something was up with Wei Ying ever since their mission.

"Wei Ying!" he shouted trying to wake the other. He grabbed his hand and started to transfer him spiritual energy before drying him as well. Deciding to not stay out in the now cool evening, he lifted Wei Ying up bridal style and sped back to their room. If anyone saw, they would say they've never seen Lan Zhan look so dishevelled before. He gently placed Wei Ying onto the bed when they arrived and checked his pulse; it was there, but very faint.

All he could do was wait and hope Wei Ying would wake up soon. He could only hold onto the slightly shaking hand of the younger and wait. As he waited, the memory of them after fighting the Xuanwu of slaughter came to mind. He had dragged Wei Ying, again unconscious, from the lake and sang.

And so he began to sing very quietly whilst looking worried at his love.

"Lan Zhan..." a voice whispered.

"I am here." Lan Zhan said reassuringly to the younger.

It took a few moments until Wei Ying's eyes opened fully. He looked shocked and exhausted.

"What, ah, what happened?" he asked, clutching his forehead which ached painfully.

"You collapsed and fell into the lake. I rescued you and brought you here. Now you should rest." he explained.

"This body is so weak." Wei Ying complained.

"Do not dwell." said Lan Zhan.

Wei Ying smiled at Lan Zhan before squeezing his hand and moving into Lan Zhan's lap.

"My hero." he said before his eyes slipped shut once again.

Lan Zhan only nodded silently and made Wei Ying more comfortable, his head lying on his lap. He would always be there for Wei Ying and be whatever his love needed him to be.
