(Ah the emotions are wild in this one you have been warned 😁)
"OK, that's a wrap for this scene. Great job you two! Honestly, you get better with each scene." the director praised.
"Thankyou." said Wang Yibo.
"Well we try our best, right?" Xiao Zhan asked.
"Yeah."
"I'm hungry. Let's go eat!" he smiled before running off to the food truck. Wang Yibo only followed with a smile.
This was how most of their days went: shoot, eat, rest, repeat. It was their third week of filming and Wang Yibo felt a strange sense of déjà-vu. Not from the repetitive days but the story they were acting out. He felt like Lan Zhan was a friend he knew in the past and when he played the character it was like he was only being himself. He brushed it off as being attached to the role, but everytime he looked at Xiao Zhan, he felt the same way.
Unknown to him, Xiao Zhan was feeling the same way. Everytime they shot a scene it felt as if he was retelling something that had happened to him a few days ago. Wei Ying felt like a part of himself, and not in the way actors say they see themselves in their character, but as if he was actually Wei Ying. Everytime he put on his costume and looked in the mirror, it was like looking at photographs of when he was a child, except the child was older than him.
And when he looked at Wang Yibo, it was like gravity was pulling them together. As soon as he lay eyes on him, he felt like a hole he didn't know he had in his heart had been filled. His face seemed so familiar and his actions were predictable, like he was copying someone.
When the two were together, he felt a unfamiliar feeling in his chest and it made him want to laugh and throw up at the same time. The pair had never met until the shoot but it was like they'd known each other for centuries...
The next day, it was time to shoot the scene of Wei Wuxian's death. To help him prepare he thought of all the tragedies his character had dealt with so when he got up on the platform, his eyes were already rimmed with red. The platform was about fifteen feet tall: not enough to be dangerous but enough for the fall to look realistic on camera when edited.
"Okay, Xiao Zhan, I want you to fall back and let Wang Yibo catch you. Say nothing for a few seconds before whispering your lines and then pull away. Count for a moment when you let go so you know you're out of the shot, then move your body to have a safe landing."
"Alright." he nodded before turning to look at the green screen.
"Action."
He made a dejected and anguished face as he looked to the green sc-
The green screen wasn't there. He felt his heart beat rise as he saw a bloody battlefield and dead bodies falling with painful screams all around him. He started gasping heavily as panic set in. Around him was rock instead of lights and blood instead of paint.
"What?" he whispered out loud.
He couldn't explain what was happening and his body reacted before he did. It was as if this had all happened before...
But it couldn't have! He had never been in a battle in his life and weapons such as swords and arrows weren't used nowadays anyways. The Temple to his right loomed over him tauntingly, as if mocking him for being there.
Again, his body moved without thought and he turned to where a dummy should have been lying-except it was his senior sister. His heart seared in his chest, as if this was all real, and he inhaled the smell of smoke from the scattered fires. His eyes clenched shut and he willed himself to leave this hallucination.
