"Wangji, have you seen YaoYao?"

"No."

"Okay, but I don't like how he keeps disappearing for hours."

"He always comes back." Wangji reminded.

"True, anyways have a good day at work."

Wangji left the house and began his walk to work. He was a manager consultant at a nearby law firm and worked the regular 9-5. His days were always the same: wake up, have breakfast, say goodbye to his brother, go to work, come home, have dinner, relax, and then go to sleep. He liked the structure in his life but these past few weeks have been different. Recently, his brother Xichen's cat has been disappearing for majority of the day, only coming back just before the sun set. Usually, YaoYao (the cat) would only go out and about in the morning and spend the rest of the day at their home with Xichen, who worked at home as an online tutor.

Wangji often wandered where the cat went, knowing it was rather shy and preferred to stay at home. He guessed he must have found some other cats or was visiting some of the neighbours, never straying too far. And, every time he came back, he seemed to look rather happy and didn't eat all of his dinner. His brother sometimes asked if they should go and search for YaoYao, but Wangji said the cat always came back so there was no real issue.

Just like every morning in the past fortnight, Wangji kept an eye out for the black and white cat. He told his brother that he would call and let him know if he ever found where the cat was going, knowing he got rather worried. So, today, when he was making his regular journey to work, he spotted an all-too familiar black and white tail disappear around a corner. Wangji looked at his watch and saw that he had around ten minutes extra this morning and so he decided to follow the tail, wanting to see if it was YaoYao.

He turned a corner and walked down a long street that lead to a quiet and more residential block, rather like where he lived. The houses were smaller and there was a good atmosphere. He saw the same tail turn onto a small and clean drive; it made its way up a short set of stairs onto a small porch. Wangji watched as the cat stood on its hind paws and scratched the door whilst meowing softly. A few moments later, the door opened and out came a young man. He clearly knew the cat as he crouched down and began to stroke YaoYao's fur.

"Lucky that you're so cute and clean or else I'd have to take you to the pet centre. I know you have a home yet you always come to see me. Now, why could that be?" the male asked in a teasing tone whilst grinning at the cat.

YaoYao meowed and began to move around the porch. The male watched with a smile before disappearing into his house. When he returned, he was holding a small blanket and a bowl with fresh water. YaoYao lay down in a sunspot on the porch after the man put the blanket down; he lay on his back and looked right at home in the sun. The male smiled before disappearing once more.

Wangji decided to go and speak to the male rather than just standing there rather creepily. He walked down the pavement and then up the drive, soon standing on the porch. He knocked on the door thrice before waiting. As the time passed, he glanced over to the cat to find it very blissful and ignorant of his presence. Wangji returned his gaze to the door; just in time too as the door opened and the young male appeared.

"Hi, can I help you?" the male asked.

"Hello, my name is Lan Wangji and that-" he paused to point at YaoYao, "is my brother's cat."

"Oh, it's yours? Isn't he adorable?" the male asked, smiling cutely at the cat.

"Mn."

"He showed up here one day, when it was raining a little. I'd just come back from grocery shopping to see him lounging there in the sun spot as the rain stopped. Ever since, he's showed up every morning. At first, I thought he was a stray but he was clean and well-fed so I knew he was just on an adventure. I don't feed him, don't worry, just water if he wants it."

"He seems content."

"I know right! Wait, what's his name?" the male asked.

"YaoYao. And yours?"

"YaoYao, that's adorable. Oh, I forgot to say, I'm Wei Wuxian, nice to meet you. So, where are you off to today?" Wei Wuxian asked as he walked over to the cat, noticing Wangji's clothes.

"Work."

"What kind?"

"A law firm."

"Law? How serious. You'd laugh if you knew what I do."

"What do you do?" Wangji asked curiously.

"I'm a musician, I teach kids how to play too."

"Why would I laugh?"

"Because it's not serious. But, it helps people in its own way, I guess."

"Mn."

"Well," Wuxian began after a few moments of quiet, "do you want to take YaoYao back or can he stay here? He looks to comfy to move."

"He can stay, my brother just wanted to know where he was. I'll tell him."

"Okay. And... will you come around later to take him back home?"

"I can do."

"Really, then I look forward to it." Wuxian said with a smile. "I'll see you later Lan Zhan."

Wangji realised that the male had used his other name and was surprised that he knew it. How?

"It's on your case." Wuxian replied before heading back into the house, stopping in the doorway. "You can call me Wei Ying, I'll see you later."

"Mn."

The door shut and Wangji took one more look at YaoYao before sighing and making his way back to work, wanting to get there on time. He called his brother along the way and explained what had happened. Xichen sounded so relieved that they knew where YaoYao was going and that it was rather nearby.

"Wei Ying seems like a nice person, maybe we should invite him to dinner for looking after YaoYao so well."

"Mn."

"Is that agreement I hear?" Xichen joked. "Well, Wuxian must be a good person to get your liking in under ten minutes."

Wangji sighed as his brother laughed, telling him he would see him later before hanging up and starting his day. The day was smooth and easy-going since there were no major cases at the moment. This meant the day went by rather slow. But it was alright as Wangji often thought about going back to the small house and seeing Wei Ying again.

He was glad that YaoYao was safe, and being looked after by a person like Wei Ying. He just hoped he said yes to coming round for dinner...
